The story details a severe drought where lack of rain causes trees to wither and rivers to dry up, leading to widespread hunger and thirst among people and animals. In response, all the animals, led by Lion, decide to dig a well for a shared water source. While most animals diligently participate in digging using hoes, shovels, and picks, Hare is absent. After extensive digging, they successfully find water. Lion expresses his disapproval of Hare's non-participation, stating that Hare will not be allowed to drink from the well. Later, Hare arrives and, noticing the well, playfully approaches. He takes some water and then splashes around, enjoying the fruit of the other animals' labor. This year, the rain has not fallen . Everyone is dying from hunger and thirst.
