Accreditation with Commendation provides the benefit of an extended, six-year accreditation term. The 800-member organization is composed of both practicing diagnostic pathologists and investigative scientists, including trainees. Central to the AANP’s continuing medical education program is its annual meeting, which provides opportunities for both basic scientists and practicing physicians to intellectually engage one another so that state-of-the-art scientific advances may be translated into more effective hospital and community practice. In 2007, the AANP became an approved self-assessment module (SAM) provider by the American Board of Pathology (ABP) .
