As time passes, birds and people help spread seeds, and the island transforms from reef into a thriving home with many similar trees. When villagers discover that the nut’s cracked shell releases water and reveals edible soft flesh, they learn the kernel inside is tasty too, turning discovery into new food.","That Amazing Tree \nEnglish Agriculture \nCopyright © 1997, SIL International \nYou may not use this work for commercial purposes. It was a brown nut. \nIt sat there for a very long time, warmed by the sun and washed by the waves. Then one day a tiny shoot pierced through its dark brown skin. It grew and grew. Its roots appeared and spread out like tiny fingers and grew into the ground. The waves washed up the sand and covered the nut. \nHappily it grew more and more leaves and birds came to rest on it. They carried seeds to the coral reef island and other plants grew. One day, the ground shook and heaved. The plant which was taller than all the other plants, found itself even taller for it was now on higher ground. The sea was far below it now. It continued to grow. \nIt was graceful and slender. Right at the very top of its trunk, it wore a canopy of leaves through which the sunlight filtered. Time went by and it bore fruit. The fruit ripened and dropped to the ground. It took root and grew just like the first brown nut did. Soon the hillside had many other trees just like it. \nBoats sailed by and people saw what a pretty island it was. They came to settle on it and very soon there were villages all along its coast. What was once a coral reef had now become a big island. That one brown nut had multiplied into hundreds. \nThe people picked up the nuts and peeled off the skin and found the husk underneath dry and fibrous. It could not be eaten they thought. One day, a little boy climbed a tree. He twisted some green nuts off their stalk and threw them down. One of the nuts hit a large rock and cracked. Water trickled out. \nHe took the cracked nut home to show his parents. They split it open and scraped out the soft flesh. They tasted it and it was good. Now they knew what was inside the nut. What a discovery! They gathered some more of the nuts and found that the old nuts had thick kernels which tasted just as good as the soft flesh of the young nuts.","cbCaidXyDfdgzQzV","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaidXyDfdgzQzV","pdf",1350122,20,"English","en",105,"# That Amazing Tree\n## From Nut to Tree\n## Seeds, Growth, and an Island Transformation\n## Discovery of Edible Nuts","[{\"question\":\"What begins the story of the island’s tree?\",\"answer\":\"A brown nut lands on the sandy shore when the island is still a coral reef.\"},{\"question\":\"How does the tree spread and lead to many trees on the hillside?\",\"answer\":\"Birds carry seeds to the island and new plants grow; the original tree also produces fruit that ripens and drops, rooting into new trees.\"},{\"question\":\"Why does the cracked nut become an important discovery for the people?\",\"answer\":\"When a boy cracks a green nut against a rock, water trickles out, and the nut’s soft flesh and later thick kernels inside are found to be edible.\"}]",1784312552,31,{"code":4,"msg":29,"data":30},"ok",{"site_id":23,"language":22,"slug":31,"title":13,"keywords":32,"description":14,"schema_data":33,"social_meta":85,"head_meta":87,"extra_data":89,"updated_unix":26},"that-amazing-tree-read-in-english","",{"@graph":34,"@context":84},[35,52,67],{"@type":36,"itemListElement":37},"BreadcrumbList",[38,42,46,49],{"item":39,"name":40,"@type":41,"position":11},"https://docshare.wps.com","Home","ListItem",{"item":43,"name":44,"@type":41,"position":45},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/","Document",2,{"item":47,"name":12,"@type":41,"position":48},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/story-novel/",3,{"item":50,"name":13,"@type":41,"position":51},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/that-amazing-tree-read-in-english/92178/",4,{"url":50,"name":13,"@type":53,"author":54,"headline":13,"publisher":56,"fileFormat":59,"inLanguage":22,"description":14,"dateModified":60,"datePublished":61,"encodingFormat":59,"isAccessibleForFree":62,"interactionStatistic":63},"DigitalDocument",{"name":9,"@type":55},"Person",{"url":39,"name":57,"@type":58},"DocShare","Organization","application/pdf","2026-07-22","2026-07-17",true,{"@type":64,"interactionType":65,"userInteractionCount":11},"InteractionCounter",{"@type":66},"ViewAction",{"@type":68,"mainEntity":69},"FAQPage",[70,76,80],{"name":71,"@type":72,"acceptedAnswer":73},"What begins the story of the island’s tree?","Question",{"text":74,"@type":75},"A brown nut lands on the sandy shore when the island is still a coral reef.","Answer",{"name":77,"@type":72,"acceptedAnswer":78},"How does the tree spread and lead to many trees on the hillside?",{"text":79,"@type":75},"Birds carry seeds to the island and new plants grow; the original tree also produces fruit that ripens and drops, rooting into new trees.",{"name":81,"@type":72,"acceptedAnswer":82},"Why does the cracked nut become an important discovery for the people?",{"text":83,"@type":75},"When a boy cracks a green nut against a rock, water trickles out, and the nut’s soft flesh and later thick kernels inside are found to be edible.","https://schema.org",{"og:url":50,"og:type":86,"og:title":13,"og:site_name":57,"og:description":14},"article",{"robots":88,"canonical":50},"index,follow",{"doc_id":7,"site_id":23},{"code":4,"msg":5,"data":91},[92,95,99,103,108,113,118,123,127,130,134],{"id":11,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":44,"category_name":12,"show_sort_weight":93,"slug":94},90,"story-novel",{"id":45,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":44,"category_name":96,"show_sort_weight":97,"slug":98},"Literature",80,"literature",{"id":51,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":44,"category_name":100,"show_sort_weight":101,"slug":102},"Exam",70,"exam",{"id":104,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":44,"category_name":105,"show_sort_weight":106,"slug":107},5,"Comic",60,"comic",{"id":109,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":44,"category_name":110,"show_sort_weight":111,"slug":112},6,"Technology",50,"technology",{"id":114,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":44,"category_name":115,"show_sort_weight":116,"slug":117},7,"Healthcare",40,"healthcare",{"id":119,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":44,"category_name":120,"show_sort_weight":121,"slug":122},8,"Research & Report",30,"research-report",{"id":124,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":44,"category_name":125,"show_sort_weight":20,"slug":126},9,"Religion & Spirituality","religion-spirituality",{"id":20,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":44,"category_name":128,"show_sort_weight":20,"slug":129},"World Cup","world-cup",{"id":131,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":44,"category_name":132,"show_sort_weight":131,"slug":133},10,"Lifestyle","lifestyle",{"id":135,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":44,"category_name":136,"show_sort_weight":104,"slug":137},19,"General","general"]
