Scope and purpose\n\nThe drum test according to this standard is for determiningthe raw edge strength of textile floorcoverings by means ofmechanical stress. The raw edge strength is especially importantfor the border areas of continuous sheets of textiles that aresubjected to high stresses. \nThe test is used for wal1-to-wall carpets according toDIN 61,151. \n# 2. Terms\n\nRaw edge strength \nRaw edge strength is understood to refer to the behavior ofcarpeting materials in the area near the seam edge under practicalor simulated use stresses. \n● \n● \nPage 2 \n# 3. Brief description of the process\n\nA metal ball provided with rubber stamps rolls irregularly ina rotating drum and subjects the test samples attached to theinside of the drum cylinder to stress in this way. These testsamples have a cut running at an acute angle to the productiondirection in the middle of the test sample, severing a few rows ofpile. \nFollowing the stress test in the drum, the test samples areevaluated for any damage that might have occurred. \n# 4. Sampling and sample preparation\n\n## 4.1 Sampling\n\nSampling is aone in accordance with DIN 53,803,part 2. Foursamples measuring 570 mm in length(in production direction)and265 mm in width are cut from the laboratory sample(see alsosection 7). \nNote: In order to be able to place samples of thickfloorcoverings(>15 mm)in the drum without compression,it isadvisable to shorten their length to ca.565 mm. \n## 4.2 Sample preparation\n\nDivide the drum samples in the middle almost completely by acut running at a slight oblique angle in,the production direction. The two halves of the test sample remain connected together onlyat the ends. The cut runs the length of the sample beginning 2 cmfrom one end of the sample and running to 2 cm away from the otherend of the sample with a 1 cm offset, but at least one pile threadmust severed even with a.coarse pitch. \n● \nPage 3 \nThis cut must be made with a sharp cutting tool(carpet knifeor punching tool)from the pile side. \nThen the test sample that has been divided in two is finishedtogether cleanly by connecting both halves of the sample closetogether at the cut edge by means of a 6 cm wide strip of one-sided adhesive tape on the back of the test sample. The adhesivetape should be pressed in well. It is absolutely essential forthe two halves to fit together tightly in the seam area. Apply a2 cm wide double-sided adhesive tape with a cover film on the topof the one-sided adhesive tape across the length of the testsample in the area of the cut so the sample can also be fixed inthe drum during the stress test. \nGlue both of the narrow sides of the test sample with afabric strip that has glue on one side and is at least 50 mm wideto prevent fraying. \n# 5. Apparatus\n\nThe apparatus*consists of a drum with a vacuum suctiondevice on the inside,a ball that can move freely inside the drumand has rubber stamps attached to it and a drive mechanism forturning the drum. \n*Information on order sources available from DIN ordersource list for standardized products in DIN,Burggrafenstrasse 6,1000 Berlin 30. \n●","cbCaij6QKPI6boFp","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaij6QKPI6boFp","pdf",994372,34,"English","# 1.
