Finally it feels like summer! \nAs I predicted, July was a busy month around the club, including our busiest week of camp this year, with 18 campers on hand. Plus the Independence Day celebration, two regattas—the Purissima Cup and the Women Sailing regatta—and a cruise-out to Encinal YC. And finally, five teams of HMBYC sailors trekked inland to compete at the 2018 C15 NAC regatta, held at Huntington Lake. (At an altitude of 7,000’...I wonder if the decreased air pressure made the boats faster or slower?) I think that qualifies as “a busy month,” don’t you? August won’t be as intense as July was, although we do still have plenty going on with two more weeks of summer camp and our last adult sailing class of the year. But August is also the month that we all spend getting ready for...Labor Day! It’s our biggest event of the year, bigger even than our 40th birthday party a few months ago, and definitely an allhands-on-deck occasion. I’ll be the head chef for Saturday’s salmon dinner and Howard’s sous chef for Sunday’s pulled pork dinner...have you decided how you’ll volunteer yet? \nOn a very sad note, we also said goodbye last month to a young man many of us knew, admired, and respected. Malcolm Feix, one of our long-time hospitality workers and \nhospitality team leader for a year, died suddenly while surfing on Sunday, 22 July. His passing shocked all of us; it seemed as though time stood still the next day as the entire Coastside community \ntried to come to grips with the news . Clay Lambert of the Half \nMoon Bay Review put it well when he said that,“the Coastside is a lesser place without Malcolm Feix. He was one of a kind.” Rest in peace, Malcolm. \nPlease wear your Badge while camp is in session! \nSummer youth sailing camp runs every weekday through 10 August. With so many kids at the club, the instructor team needs to be prudent about knowing who else is around...after all, the campers’ parents are entrusting their children to us, and expecting us to keep them safe. PLEASE WEAR YOUR MEMBER BADGE AT ALL TIMES WHILE ATTHE CLUB so the instructors know at a glance that you’re allowed to be there. If you forget, please don’t be offended \nif an instructor asks you to identify yourself. \n(Exception: if you are working in the boatyard, especially with power equipment, please do not wear anything around your neck...even your badge. \nWe want you to stay safe too!) \nScott Pyne \nCommodore \nHalf Moon Bay Yacht Club \nClick here for More Info on our Sailing Calendar \nAugust 2018 Sailing Events \n1-Aug-18 \n1-Aug-18 2-Aug-18 3-Aug-18 \n3-Aug-18 5-Aug-18 \n5-Aug-18 6-Aug-18 7-Aug-18 \n7-Aug-18 8-Aug-18 \n8-Aug-18 9-Aug-18 10-Aug-18 \n11-Aug-18 \n12-Aug-18 \n14-Aug-18 \n15-Aug-18 \n17-Aug-18 \n18-Aug-18 \n19-Aug-18 \n19-Aug-18 22-Aug-18 \n23-Aug-18 \n24-Aug-18 \n26-Aug-18 \n29-Aug-18 31-Aug-18 \n31-Aug-18 \nWednesday \nWednesday Thursday Friday \nFriday Sunday \nSunday Monday Tuesday \nTuesday Wednesday \nWednesday Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday Tuesday Wednesday Friday Saturday Sunday \nSunday Wednesday Thursday Friday Sunday Wednesday Friday \nFriday \n0830-1530 1800-2100 0830-1530 \n0830-1530 1700-2000 1100-1630 \n1400-1700 0830-1530 \n0830-1530 1900-2100 0830-1530 1800-2100 0830-1530 \n0830-1530 1700-2000 \n1400-1700 1730-2030 1800-2100 \n1700-2000 0800-1630 \n0800-1630 1100-1630 1800-2100 1730-2030 \n1700-2000 \n1400-1700 \n1800-2100 \n1600-2200 \n1700-2000 \nSummer Youth Sailing Camp Wednesday Night Sailing Summer Youth Sailing Camp \nSummer Youth Sailing Camp Beer Can Racing C15 Sailing and Racing Sunday Skippers \nSummer Youth Sailing Camp \nSummer Youth Sailing Ca","cbCaiqxj5OSHsm2j","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaiqxj5OSHsm2j","pdf",28216107,27,"English","# August 2018 Issue\n## Club Notes and Message\n## Summer Youth Sailing Camp\n## August 2018 Sailing Events\n## Women Sailing Bareboat Training\n## Events Committee Meeting","[{\"question\":\"What key activities are mentioned for August at the club?\",\"answer\":\"The issue emphasizes summer youth sailing camp running through 10 August, continued adult sailing class activity, and preparation for Labor Day.\"},{\"question\":\"Why are members asked to wear their badge during camp?\",\"answer\":\"Members are asked to wear badges at all times so instructors can quickly confirm who is allowed to be at the club, supporting safety during camp.\"},{\"question\":\"What is announced for Women Sailing in September 2018?\",\"answer\":\"Women Sailing plans a week-long bareboat training in the San Juan Islands during the week of September 8, earning ASA 101, 103, and 104 certificates and living/sailing aboard.\"}]","TellTales - August 2018 Issue - Half Moon Bay Yacht Club | PDF",1790289737]
