After experiencing firsthand the crisis of childhood cancer, Angela devoted her passion to creating an organization that ensures those with limited means living with a critical or chronic illness in Santa Cruz County would not go hungry and could rely on healthy meals delivered to their door along with vital human connection.  \nImpact  \nTKP’s clients are low to very low income, with 87% surviving on 200% or more than the federal poverty line. Many recipients are Medi-Cal members whose diagnosis may benefit from medically tailored meals. TKP works!  \nImpact  \nSince its founding, TKP has engaged more than 1,300 youth (“Teen Chefs”) in preparing over 860,000 healthy meals.  \nTKP is structured to provide meals through the training of local high school students in culinary skills.  \nTeen Kitchen Project is funded by contracts with the Central California Alliance for Health, grants, and individual contributions.  \nThe Need and the Opportunity  \nThe need and demand for services addressing food insecurity for seniors and the critically and chronically ill continues to increase. As seniors are the fastest growing demographic in Santa Cruz County, seniors living with critical and chronic illnesses are more at risk than ever for complications related to poor diet.  \nThe Solution  \nTo meet this growing community need, TKP has a planto develop a new, expanded kitchen. An ideal location has been identified, a long-term lease has been signed, the project is fully designed, and all permits have been secured. The location is in Soquel. It is near the local high schools attended by most of our young chefs, and allows for significantly expanded equipment, storage, and refrigeration.
