exterior views and sections. This type of representation has, however, two limitations:its execution requires a thorough understanding of theprinciples of projection, and its reading requires a definite exercise of theconstructive imagination. \nFrequently it is necessary to prepare drawings which are accurateand scientifically correct, and which can be easily understood by personswithout technical training.Such drawings show objects approximatelyas they appear to the observer. This type of drawing is called pictorialdrawing,to distinguish it from multi-view drawing discussed in Chapter 7.Since pictorial drawing shows only the appearances of objects,it is notsatisfactory for showing complex or detailed forms. \nVarious types of pictorial drawing are used extensively in catalogsand in general sales literature, and also in technical work,t to supplementand amplify multi-view drawings;for example,in Patent Office drawings,in piping diagrams, and in machine, structural, and architectural drawings, and in furniture design. \nPictorial drawing enables the person without technical training tovisualize the object represented. It also enables the trained designer tovisualize the successive stages of the design, and to develop it in a satis-factory manner. \n262.Methods of Projection.—Pictorial drawings are prepared on asingle plane of projection by the methods of (1)axonometric projection, \n(2)oblique projection(Chapter 12)and (3)central projection(or perspective)(Chapter 13)as distinguished from multi-view drawings, which are preparedon two or more planes of projection. \nIn axonometric projection the object,a cube, for example,is placedso that its faces are inclined to the plane of projection,in order that three \nfaces may be represented in one view. The lines of sight are perpendicularto the plane of projection;therefore, axonometric projection is a branch oforthographic projection(§183). \n263.Types of Axonometric Projection.—The distinguishing featureof axonometric projection is the inclined position of the object with respectto the plane of projection.Since the principal edges,or axes,of the objectare inclined to the plane of projection, the lengths of the lines, the sizesof the angles, and the general proportions of the projection of the objectvary with the infinite number of possible positions in which the objectmay be placed with respect to the plane of projection. \nAxonometric projection is classified as:(1)isometric projection, \n(2)dimetric projection,and(3)trimetric projection. Before proceeding withthe study of axonometric projection, the student should review carefully88173-177,in Chapter 6,in which the theoretical background for thissubject is explained. \nIsoMETRIC PROJECTION \n264.Method of Projection.—To produce an isometric projection,it isnecessary to place the object ","cbCaiuD2TDMacVF5","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaiuD2TDMacVF5","pdf",1104140,13,"English","# Chapter 11: Axonometric Projection\n## 261.
