It explains how visible tongue signs can be correlated with patient symptoms and clinical context, bridging traditional Chinese medicine concepts with Western medical terminology, pathology, and physiology. It is the result of more than 20 years of taking photographs of every tongue at every consultation. The first edition appeared in 2008, the third in 2023. My objective in writing the book was to build a bridge between traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and allopathic Western medicine. Any change in the tongue will be explained and interpreted from a Chinese and a Western way of thinking, which should help understand tongue diagnosis and enable any practitioner to make an individual diagnose and develop an individual treatment plan for every patient. The first part of the book explains the necessary techniques and prerequisites for achieving comparable pictures. The second part shows and explains all relevant changes in tongues and their diagnostic meanings. The third part elucidates the most common tongue changes in a general practitioner’s practical work. The following chapters provide a step-by-step guide to developing a therapy plan with the aid of case histories and tongue pictures. Any symptom is correlated and explained with the patient’s symptoms so that the reader can see the practical relevance and understand how to create a successful treatment management plan. Many arrows and detail enlargements provide comprehensive information about the relevant aspects. For the first time in the tongue diagnostics literature, the changes in tongue signs related to the patient’s symptoms before and after successful therapy are documented. \nThis book is intended to be a guide to recognizing, understanding, and interpreting significant tongue changes in clinical practice.
