lowbranch and gives me its bright eye,'letting itself be seen',as Jim taught mebirds do not often allow.And here's a snail,now,making its way across a sportsfield;another,smaller,trailing behind it in the dew.A spider dangles from athread;blackbirds take turns letting each other have their space of song.  \nSuch is THIS,the world opened up to us through the poetry ofJim Stewart.A world intricate with life in all its variety and creativity,anecosystem fretted with the actions and habits of creatures and seasons thatis both everyday and wondrous.And true,while some of the moments listedhere are from the selection of work you hold in your hands-this journeyof poems that traverse the landscape around the Firth of Tay by one whowalked and loved it-some were not.For that is the gift of this
