shelf next to Walts fairy tales,butthey also wanted to make this movie for a modern audience.So the bigchallenge on Tiangled was to create a unique world and story that evokethe rich,dramatic feeling that is classically Disney,but is also fresh andhumorous,and that gives the audience something it has never scen beforein computer animation.  \nTo achieve this goal,the pre-prodaction artists first drew inspirationfrom some of the most romantic pbces on earth.For Tangda'kingdom,we looked at Mont-Saint-Michel,a townbuilt on a giant rockon the edgeof the English ChanneLFor the tower's hidden valley,wewere inspired byRocamadour,a lovely medieval village hanging onto the side ofaciff inFrance.That's what drives us-creating fantasy worlds that the audiencebelieves could exist and would want to visit on vacation.  \nThe other bigchalkenge on Tangled was to take the source material,theRapunzel fairy take,which is very dark,and make it entertaining for todaysaadience.This is where Nathan and Byron really come in.From theirinitial sketches,they populated their fairy tale world with hilarious andinnately appealing characters,from Flynn Rider to Maximus,a dog ina horses body,toa whole pub full of thugs.Most ofall,they knew thatRapunzel needed to be a dynamic spirit ready to burst from her tower.To visualize this desire bubbling out of Rapunzel,the artists came upwith the fantastic idea that she paints the inside of her tower,creating awonderful folk art mural and turning the one-room tower where she'slived her whole life into aplace one wouldn't mind spendingsome time.  \nThese
