He told Solo about it and he and his friends had been trying to catch it ever since.  \nAt first, the boys had tried to scoop the eel up with their hands and then they had used a bucket. Last week, they’d tried to catch it with an old mosquito net, but the eel was too fast and way too clever for them. Now, Solo was standing in the river holding a piece of long, thin metal that looked like a spoke from his bike .  \n“I’ve got him!” shouted Solo. Everyone turned to look, but when Solo lifted his hands out of the water, he was only holding the bike spoke .“You almost had him, Solo!” said oneof the boys.“Try again!” shouted another.  \n“Okay but be quiet and stop splashing so much. You guys are scaring the eel away!” said Solo, crossly. He lowered the spoke into the water again, just beside the big rock where the eel liked to hide. The other boys bent their heads over to watch. Solo lunged with the bike spoke and brought it up quickly but again, there was nothing on the end of it. Tala tried not to laugh out loud.  \nTala stood up, slung his school bag over his shoulder and walked home deep in thought. He thought about how delicious the eel would taste baked in the umu with coconut cream . That eel was way too clever for Solo and his friends, but Tala was sure he could catch it. He just had to think of a plan.  \nWhen he got home, Tala saw Solo’s bike leaning up against the house. Maybe Solo wouldn’t notice if he took a spoke from the other wheel … but Tala knew there would be big trouble if he did. Tala thought some more . He didn’t have a bike .
