It contains information on Examinee Terms and Conditions, the ACT Privacy Policy, test prep resources, prohibited items and behaviors, MyACT account creation information, and score reports. \nStudent: Please use this Taking the ACT guide as you prepare to take the ACT test. \nWhy Take the ACT \nThe ACT® test is a curriculum-based examination that matches well with the education standards in your state. Taking the ACT will give you a measure of your academic strengths and/or weaknesses. You can use your results to identify areas where you may need to improve, whether you intend togo to college or enter the workplace after highschool. You can also use your results as you begin exploring careers and planning life goals. \nWhat You Need to Know \nThe ACT includes multiple-choice tests in English, mathematics, reading, and science. The tests measure your educational development in those areas. They are based on what you have learned—they are not aptitude or IQ tests. \nIf your school is administering the ACT with writing, you will write an essay in English. The ACT writing test measures the writing skills you learned in high school English courses. Many colleges and universities use ACT writing test results as a guide for placing incoming students into first-year composition courses. \nChecklist for Taking the ACT \nBefore Test Day \n􀂅 Go to [www.act.org/info-for-examinees](www.act.org/info-for-examinees) to access free practice resources. You can also learn how to create your optional MyACT profile and review the Examinee Terms and Conditions and ACT Privacy Policy. \n􀂅 Review the Examinee Terms and Conditions and the ACT Privacy Policy with your parent/ legal guardian before testing. It is important that you and your parent(s) or guardian(s) carefully review all sections of the Examinee Terms and Conditions ([www.act.org/act](www.act.org/act)examinee-terms), and the ACT Privacy Policy ([www.act.org/privacy](www.act.org/privacy)) to understand how we collect, use, and disclose personally identifying information. \n􀂅 Students can access free practice tests from the TestNav login screen. The TestNav login screen also includes a link to Examinee Terms and Conditions. \n􀂅 Read the acceptable forms of ID on page 2. You need an acceptable photo ID or an ACT Student Identification Form, unless test staff can personally recognize you. Ask a school official to help you complete an ACT Student [Identification Form](Identification Form found at www.act.org/the)[ found at](Identification Form found at www.act.org/the)[ ](Identification Form found at www.act.org/the)[www.act.org/the](Identification Form found at www.act.org/the)act/id if needed. \n􀂅 Review the information about permitted and prohibited calculators on page 3. \n􀂅 Create your MyACT account and complete the non-test information (see instructions beginning on page 3; creating an account is optional) . \n© 2026 by ACT Education Corp.
