Several significantamendments to H.R.7590,energy and water development appropriations for 1981,wereoffered. \nAn amendment from Rep.Don Fuqua(F1a.),Chairman of the House Science andTechnology Committee, was accepted 254-151.It adds $49 mi1lion for solar, wind, andocean energy programs, and $58millon for magnetic fusion and basic energy research. \nAn amendment sponsored by Rep.Joel Pritchard(Wash.)to cut $200 million of the$225 million allocated to the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway was defeated by a 196-216vote. \n# Tenn-Tom Supplemental Funding Cut Defeated\n\nAn amendment to the FY'80 supplemental appropriations b111(H.R.7542)that wouldhave deleted $58 ml1lion slated for the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway was narrowlydefeated in the House June 18. (See \"Action Alert,\"Report No.14.)The vote on theamendment, offered by Rep.Joel Pritchard(Wash.),was 185-230. \nDuring floor debate,Rep.Pritchard emphasized the $188.5 m11lion Tenn-Tom hasalready received during fiscal 1980,with Rep.S.W.Green(N.Y.)calling the vote \"a realtest of whether the members of the House are serfous about holding down federalspending.\" Amendment co-sponsor Rep。Robert Edgar(Penna.)stated:\"I do not think itw11l hurt the House of Representatfves to focus on this $58 m1111on which could be moreappropriately spent in Washington State to repair the Mount St.Helens damage or be usedfor energy-related projects that would help bring us some energy independence.\" \nAmendment opponents argued that failing to appropriate the extra $58 mi111on wouldcause unemployment, add to the final_cost of the project, and postpone real1zatton of itsprojected benefits. Rep.Clair Burgener (Calif.)called amendment sponsors \"severalyears too late, regardless of whatever merits they feel they may have.\" \nHowever,amendment supporters like Rep.Dave Stockman (Mich.)said that \"it's aboutt1me someone blew the whistle on the misguided notion that giant public works projectsare unambiguously in the national interest, are an undisguised, unequivocable economicblessing.\" \nRep.Pritchard concluded,\"Somebody has to ask the questions, because there are toomany Americans today who think there is something wrong with the Tenn-Tom project\"。_Hecalled for complet1on of a General Accounting office report(which was dropped in 1977),saying that if it found the project could stand the 11ght of day,he would supportconstruction. \nAY2S—188 \nAnnumao \nBonker \nCnlshotm \n1ngg \nAreher \nBrinklayBrodhendBroomfeld \nCouins.Tez \nApLn \nAtidnsou \nConable \nBrovn.CLg. \nConte \nrn%Bauma造 \nBroyhi \nCoroorn \nOough \nBurton,Jobn \nBurton,PhLIp \nBedell \nCourter \nBerouteBIngham \nByroa \nCrane,DenielCrune,Pailip \nCiur \nBolling \nD'AmourDannmyer \nCaranaugh \nBonloe \nChney \nDuchle \nJacobi \nPatet \nDaris.Mieh. \nJefford \nPez \nDeckard \nKastenmrKamp \nForte \nDllum \nPritchard \nDerwIne \nlldee \nPurall \nDivine \nKindnes \nQunyle \nKoecmayer \nDodd \nRauisbackRatehford \nrum \nDonnelly \nReu \nDornanDowneyDrinan \nLAPLleeLagomardno \nRichmood \nInaldo \nLatta \nLariy \nRitte \nLch,Iow \nTckchardt \nRodino \nLe \nLeland \nBdgur \nRothRousselot \nEdwards,Calir. \nLent \nEmer \nLoe①r \nRumo \nrdahl \nLoW \nBantin \nErlenborn \nLundineLungren \nSw解Scbroeder \nEVans.DaL.Evans,Ind. \nMeClory \nBeLbering \nPenwick \nMcClokey ","cbCaimYUKGu5rgM9","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaimYUKGu5rgM9","pdf",1966272,"English","# Synfuels Report Okayed by Senate\n# House Considers Water Project, Energy Funds For FY'81\n# Tenn-Tom Supplemental Funding Cut Defeated\n# Senate Passes Oil Backout Legislation","[{\"question\":\"What did the Senate agree to on June 19, 1980?\",\"answer\":\"The Senate agreed to a conference report on S.932 authorizing funds for synthetic fuels and related energy initiatives, and it included measures for energy conservation and research.\"},{\"question\":\"Which House energy and water appropriation bill was considered for FY81?\",\"answer\":\"The House considered an $11.8 billion appropriations bill providing FY81 funds for energy programs and water projects, with amendments to H.R.7590.\"},{\"question\":\"What amendment related to the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway was debated in the House?\",\"answer\":\"A proposed cut deleting $58 million for the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway was narrowly defeated, and floor debate addressed job impacts, costs, and benefits timing.\"}]","Synfuels Report Okayed by Senate - Report No.18 | PDF",1790645452,18]
