Each unit aligns to one or more strands within the GED® Test and the modules within each unit target the individual indicators on the test. The GED® Test for Math is the study of both numerical and algebraic problem-solving skills. In this course, you will find a variety of lessons and activities to improve your knowledge and skills in these areas. \nCourse Goals \nBy the end of this course, you will: \n Represent positive and negative rational numbers on a number line. \n Solve mathematical and real-world problems that contain positive and negative rational numbers. \n Learn to find common factors and compute unit rates related to ratios of fractions. \n Find factors of a polynomial that has monomial factors. \n Learn the different methods to write an expression as the product of two sums or differences. \n Learn to factor a difference of squares, a perfect square trinomial, trinomials of the form x2 + bx + c, and trinomials of the form ax2 + bx + c. \n Explore different algebraic concepts such as variables, monomial and binomial expressionsand their associated numerical operations. \n Identify non-permissible values for the variables in a rational expression. \n Solve rational expressions. \n Use variables to represent numbers when solving real-world and mathematical problems. \n Solve linear equations with rational coefficients and more difficult linear equations by isolating the variable. \n Solve linear inequalities using addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. \n Solve linear equations using the substitution method. \n Solve word problems using a system of two linear equations or inequalities. \n Solve quadratic equations in which both sides are perfect squares. \n Solve quadratic equations using factorization. \n Use quadratic equations in one variable to solve practical problems. \n Describe real-world situations as quadratic functions. \n Determine the slope and intercept of a linear relationship from its graph. \n Find the areas of triangles, special quadrilaterals, and polygons by composing ordecomposing them into other shapes. \n1 \n© 2016 EDMENTUM, INC. \n Examine the Pythagorean Theorem and its converse. \n Study formulas for the volumes of cones, cylinders, and spheres and use them to solve realworld and mathematical problems. \n Use permutations and combinations to compute probabilities of compound events and to solve problems. \nGeneral Skills \nTo participate in this course, you should be able to do the following: \n Complete basic operations with word processing software, such as Microsoft Word or Google Docs. \n Complete basic operations with presentation software, such as Microsoft PowerPoint or Google Docs presentation. \n Perform online research using various search engines and library databases. \n Communicate through email. \nFor a complete list of general skills that are required for participation in online courses, refer to the Prerequisites section of the Plato Student Orientation document, found at the beginning of this course. \nCourse Materials \n notebook \n pencils or ink pens \n computer with Internet connection and speakers or headphones \n Microsoft Word or equivalent \n Microsoft PowerPoint or equivalent \nCourse Structure \nUnit 1: Number Sense \nSummary \nIn this unit, students will represent positive and negative rational numbers on a number line. They will describe statements of order for rational numbers in real-world situations. They will also perform basic operations like addition, subtraction, multiplication , and division of multi digit decimals. Further in the unit, students will solve real-world and mathematical problems that contain positive and negative rational numbers. Later, in this unit, students will learn to find common factors and compute unit rat","cbCaiseKN5AkW6Sf","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaiseKN5AkW6Sf","pdf",86041,"English","# Course Overview\n## Course Goals\n## General Skills\n## Course Materials\n## Course Structure\n# Unit 1: Number Sense\n## Summary\n# Unit 2: Factoring Polynomials\n## Summary\n# Unit 3: Polynomial and Rational Expressions\n## Summary\n# Unit 4: Linear Equations and Inequalities\n## Summary","[{\"question\":\"What topics does the GED® Test-Math course cover?\",\"answer\":\"The course covers rational numbers on a number line, factoring polynomials, polynomial and rational expressions, and linear equations and inequalities, with additional work on quadratics, graph features, areas/volumes, and probability.\"},{\"question\":\"How are the course units aligned to the GED® Test?\",\"answer\":\"Each unit aligns to one or more GED® Test strands, and the modules in each unit target the individual indicators assessed on the GED® Test.\"},{\"question\":\"What general skills are required to participate in this course?\",\"answer\":\"Learners should be able to use basic word processing and presentation software, perform online research, and communicate via email, following the prerequisites described in the Plato Student Orientation document.\"}]","Syllabus Preparation for the GED Test - Math V2.0 | PDF",13]
