directly or through any bookseller, fromStaples Press,Limited,Mandeville Place,W.1,agents forthe sale of the publications of the London County Council \nNo.3772. \nIn January,1949,the Council issued a Syllabus of PhysicalTraining for Junior Schools prepared by its inspectors of physi-cal education. \nThe syllabus embodied much of the experimental work of theyears before and immediately after the last world war.It metwith some measure of success and the edition is now exhaustedand thus a reprint becomes necessary. The Council was facedwith the alternative of reprinting in substantially the same formor of issuing a book of suggestions, including lists of exercisesand activities. \nThe decision was made to effect minor adjustments andimprovements and to re-issue the syllabus in table form as thiswas considered the most suitable for London's requirements. \nIn Primary Junior Schools the physical training is not taken byspecialist teachers and it is,therefore, essential to present thematerial in the manner most helpful to those who have otherresponsibilities in addition to physical education.Furthermore, the training is often shared by several members of the staff andthe use of tables ensures a measure of continuity.Any giventable contains a wide variety of material and affords the teacherample opportunity to use initiative and to make the lessonssuitable to local conditions and requirements. \nExtremes of modern practice are not advocated.Whilst thereare many excellent features in the more modern approach, thereis also value in some of the pre-war methods and a wise blendingof the two may well afford the most effective training. \nThe work suggested is within the compass of the teachers whowill be responsible,it is purposeful and vigorous and,if wellcarried out, will give the children a sound physical education. \n /6 \nJune,1952. \n## INTRODUCTION\n\nDuring the past fteen years a great deal of experimental workhas been carried out and this has resulted in a somewhat differentconception of the contents of the lesson and in a marked alterationin teaching method. \nExperience has shown that certain finely isolated movementstaken from unnatural starting positions are unsuitable for theyoung as they tend to fix the body and hamper the flow of move-ment.Such positions and exercises have, therefore, been dis-carded in the modern lesson. \nEmphasis has,to a greater extent, been laid on exercises andactivities which provide a wide range of movement in the jointsand develop strength in the large muscle groups. \n## The Syllabus\n\nThis revised edition of the syllabus still contains twenty-fourtables;six tables for each year of the primary school course. \nA teacher has, therefore, some seven weeks for each table and,in view of the fact that a daily period of organised physicalactivity should be the rule in all schools, there should be ampletime in which to cover the material thoroughly. Each physicaltraining lesson should be allowed thirty minutes on the schooltimetable.Changing into suitable clothing(or adjusting thenormal clothing)and the wearing of rubber-soled shoes areessential for purposeful and virile work and, given good organisa-tion,this changingand re-dressing after the lesson can be accom-plished in ten minutes.T","cbCaijd7OKmvvPkZ","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaijd7OKmvvPkZ","pdf",4048875,112,"English","# Introduction\n## The Syllabus\n## Teaching","[{\"question\":\"What changes does the revised
