Keep a few things in mind while reading this book. First of all, there aren’t any official rules that bind you as the Referee, so if you decide that a monster should have more hit dice, or that it should have better saving throws than the “official”version, make the change! In the same vein, if a monster doesn’t really fit into your campaign, this book is only a sourcebook, so feel free to omit that monster entirely. \nThis book contains over 40 new monsters written specifically for this title, together with a variety of monsters from the book’s predecessor, Monstrosities, and a large number of monsters that are Swords & Wizardry conversions from First Edition AD&D. All of the monsters have stats for morale and for percent-in-lair, which were added to Swords & Wizardry in the 2023 Revised Rulebook. \n2 / Swords & Wizardry: Fiends & Foes \nREADING THE ENTRIES AND CONVERSION NOTES \nThe numerical information for each monster is shown as a “stat block” after the description of the monster, in the following format: HD; AC; Atk; Move; Save; Morale; AL; CL/XP; Special. Although the abbreviations will be second nature to most readers, they are described here. \n1 \nHD (HIT DICE): The monster’s hit dice. To determine a monster’s hit points, roll a d8 once for each hit die, adding the results. If the entry reads something like “4+2,” this means you’d roll 4d8 and add 2 to determine the monster’s hit points. Bonus hit points are not added to each hit die. \n2 \nAC (ARMOR CLASS): Each monster has two entries for armor class, one of which is in brackets. The first entry is for games using a “descending” armor class where lower is better. The bracketed number is for games where the Referee chooses to use an “ascending” armor class system where higher is better. \n3","cbCaigt4LT20hIiH","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaigt4LT20hIiH","pdf",1323943,"English","en",105,"# Introduction\n## Reading the Entries and Conversion Notes\n## Stat Block Field Explanations","[{\"question\":\"What is the purpose of this book for the Swords \\u0026 Wizardry Referee?\",\"answer\":\"It is a referee resource that supplements the rulebook with a large array of monsters for use in a campaign.\"},{\"question\":\"How should the referee handle monsters whose stats do not fit the campaign?\",\"answer\":\"Treat the book as a sourcebook: feel free to omit monsters that do not fit, and adjust hit dice or saving throws if desired.\"},{\"question\":\"What fields are included in each monster’s stat block?\",\"answer\":\"Each entry includes hit dice, armor class, attacks, saving throw, morale, special powers, movement, alignment, number encountered, percent in lair, and challenge level/XP.\"}]","SWORDS & WIZARDRY: FIENDS & FOES - book introduction - monsters | PDF",1791282729,{"code":4,"msg":80,"data":81},"ok",{"site_id":74,"language":73,"slug":82,"title":65,"keywords":83,"description":66,"schema_data":84,"social_meta":138,"head_meta":140,"extra_data":142,"updated_unix":143},"swords-wizardry-fiends-foes-book-introduction-monsters","",{"@graph":85,"@context":137},[86,100,120],{"@type":87,"itemListElement":88},"BreadcrumbList",[89,93,95,98],{"item":90,"name":91,"@type":92,"position":8},"https://docshare.wps.com","Home","ListItem",{"item":94,"name":9,"@type":92,"position":14},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/",{"item":96,"name":10,"@type":92,"position":97},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/story-novel/",3,{"item":99,"name":65,"@type":92,"position":19},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/swords-wizardry-fiends-foes-book-introduction-monsters/513281/",{"url":99,"name":65,"@type":101,"image":102,"author":107,"headline":65,"publisher":109,"fileFormat":112,"inLanguage":73,"description":66,"dateModified":113,"datePublished":114,"encodingFormat":112,"isAccessibleForFree":115,"interactionStatistic":116},"DigitalDocument",{"url":103,"@type":104,"width":105,"height":106},"https://docshare.wps.com/thumbnails/swords-wizardry-fiends-foes-book-introduction-monsters/513281.png","ImageObject",300,407,{"name":63,"@type":108},"Person",{"url":90,"name":110,"@type":111},"DocShare","Organization","application/pdf","2026-10-28","2026-10-06",true,{"@type":117,"interactionType":118,"userInteractionCount":39},"InteractionCounter",{"@type":119},"ViewAction",{"@type":121,"mainEntity":122},"FAQPage",[123,129,133],{"name":124,"@type":125,"acceptedAnswer":126},"What is the purpose of this book for the Swords & Wizardry Referee?","Question",{"text":127,"@type":128},"It is a referee resource that supplements the rulebook with a large array of monsters for use in a campaign.","Answer",{"name":130,"@type":125,"acceptedAnswer":131},"How should the referee handle monsters whose stats do not fit the campaign?",{"text":132,"@type":128},"Treat the book as a sourcebook: feel free to omit monsters that do not fit, and adjust hit dice or saving throws if desired.",{"name":134,"@type":125,"acceptedAnswer":135},"What fields are included in each monster’s stat block?",{"text":136,"@type":128},"Each entry includes hit dice, armor class, attacks, saving throw, morale, special powers, movement, alignment, number encountered, percent in lair, and challenge level/XP.","https://schema.org",{"og:url":99,"og:type":139,"og:title":65,"og:site_name":110,"og:description":66},"article",{"robots":141,"canonical":99},"index,follow",{"doc_id":61,"site_id":74},1791372436]
