Perry was pronounced dead at the scene; the other worker was uninjured while crews investigated and sought to recover his body.","| | THURSDAY, JULY 20, 2023 | | | | |\n| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |\n| D.A.: Apparent malfunction caused Swampscott Quarry death |  |  |  |  |  |\n| By Anthony Cammalleri\u003Cbr>ITEM STAFF\u003Cbr>SWAMPSCOTT — The Swampscott Quarry accident that killed worker Christopher Perry, 37, of Lynn, Monday afternoon was caused by a rock-crusher malfunction, according to Glen Johnson, a spokesperson from Essex County District Attorney Paul Tucker’s office.\u003Cbr>Swampscott Police received a 911 call at approximately 1 p.m. Monday reporting a problem with a rock crusher suspended above the quarry operated by Holcim Inc., formerly known as Aggregate Industries, at 30 Danvers Road.\u003Cbr>“Perry and another worker were in the device cleaning it when an apparent mechanical malfunction occurred. A nearby\u003Cbr>crane was assisting in the operation,” Johnson said in a written statement.\u003Cbr>Perry was pronounced dead atthe scene. The other worker was not injured. Crews stayed on the scene for hours after the incident investigating and trying to recover Perry’s body.\u003Cbr>In an email to The Item, Holcim Vice President of U.S. Marketing and Communications\u003Cbr>Jocelyn Gerst said the company is investigating the accident. Gerst said the incident is “tragic” and “very difficult.”“The safety of our employees and contractors, and the communities in which we live and work, are our top priority,” Gerst said.“We’d like to express our sincere condolences to the family of the individual who passed away at our Swampscott site.”\u003Cbr>According to Holcim’s 2022 Sustainability Performance Report, eight people — seven contractors and one employee —died in 2022 from four on-site incidents across the company’s plants internationally. (Swift) MacPherson, age 82, of Lynn, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 15th at Sunrise Assisted Living in Lynnfield surrounded by her family after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Melbourne P.“Mel” MacPherson, who predeceased her this past February. Born in Hyannis and raised in Osterville, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Emilia (Zyskowski) Swift. She was a graduate of Barnstable High School and the New England Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing. She had lived in Lynn for the past 60 years.\u003Cbr>Frances had worked as a registered nurse at Lynn Hospital and Salem Hospital in the nursey caring for newbornsand their families, she also worked as a pediatric home care nurse. She loved reading, watching western movies and watching her favorite baseball team, the Boston Red Sox. She and her husband enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, as well as trips to the casinos. She loved spending time with her family especially her three grandchildren.
