F. Burt, designed to adapt the Berlitz method for learners of Swahili. The approach emphasizes learning by ear and incidental grammar rather than laborious study, using subject-grouped word organization and repeated exercises to train listening and comprehension. The adopted Swahili standard follows Rev. W. E. Taylor’s set materials, with a table of contents outlining introduction, vocabulary, reading and translation exercises, grammatical notes, and reference sections such as money, weights, measures, and letter-writing specimens.",{"@graph":14,"@context":73},[15,34,56],{"@type":16,"itemListElement":17},"BreadcrumbList",[18,23,27,31],{"item":19,"name":20,"@type":21,"position":22},"https://docshare.wps.com","Home","ListItem",1,{"item":24,"name":25,"@type":21,"position":26},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/","Document",2,{"item":28,"name":29,"@type":21,"position":30},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/exam/","Exam",3,{"item":32,"name":10,"@type":21,"position":33},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/swahili-grammar-and-vocabulary-burt/489538/",4,{"url":32,"name":10,"@type":35,"image":36,"author":41,"headline":10,"publisher":44,"fileFormat":47,"inLanguage":8,"description":12,"dateModified":48,"datePublished":49,"encodingFormat":47,"isAccessibleForFree":50,"interactionStatistic":51},"DigitalDocument",{"url":37,"@type":38,"width":39,"height":40},"https://docshare.wps.com/thumbnails/swahili-grammar-and-vocabulary-burt/489538.png","ImageObject",300,407,{"name":42,"@type":43},"Pentious","Person",{"url":19,"name":45,"@type":46},"DocShare","Organization","application/pdf","2026-10-17","2026-10-01",true,{"@type":52,"interactionType":53,"userInteractionCount":55},"InteractionCounter",{"@type":54},"ViewAction",5,{"@type":57,"mainEntity":58},"FAQPage",[59,65,69],{"name":60,"@type":61,"acceptedAnswer":62},"What learning modern European languages to theneeds of the student of Swahili;its aim is to-enable thelearner to acquire a working knowledge of the languagewithout laborious research or great feats of memory.Grammatical rules occupy a subordinate place:they areintroduced incidentally and are not to be regarded as aseparate subject of study:the ear, rather than the eye, isthe organ to be pressed into the service.Words arearranged in subject-groups in order that,by the naturalassociation of ideas, the student may help himself to learnSwahili much as a child picks up its mother tongue.Theexercises should,if possible,be reiterated and amplifiedwith the aid of a native teacher, until the ear is thoroughlyaccustomed to the sounds and the mind trained to followthe constructions. This method,if carefully pursued, should soon lead to technical accuracy. \nThe standard of Swahili adopted is that set by theRev.W.E.Taylor,M.A.,to whose valuable works thewriter is greatly indebted. He has kindly furnished theSyllabary and Part I.of the work. \n## A.E.B.\n\nBoURNE END PARSONAGE,BoxMOOR,1910. \n# TABLE OF CONTENTS\n\n## PART I\n\nPAG2 \n7 \n# INTRODUCTION AND ARTICLE ON PHIOSETICS\n\n… \n…
