program since its origin with the pas-sage of the Smith-Hughes Act in 1917.Analyses to identifysignificant values and strengths of current programs and todetermine present and future needs which should be met throughvocational education in agriculture have provided guidelines forprogram planning. In this era of a changing agriculture thenecessity for systematic questing for ways vocational educationin agriculture can be of optimum service has assumed a newimportance. \nTo encourage the implementation of the findings of researchconducted by agricultural educators at the State level, the Ameri-can Vocational Association,in cooperation with the AgriculturalEducation Branch of the Office of Education, initiated a projectin 1932,which has made available summaries of numerous studiesin agricultural education. The first publication of these sum-maries was Vocational Education Bulletin No.180,\"Summariesof Studies in Agricultural Education,\"issued by the Office ofEducation in 1935.Thirteen supplements to Bulletin No.180have been issued since. This supplement,No.14,contains sum-maries of 106 studies that were conducted at the State levelduring the 1959-60 academic year. \nPersons desiring more detail on a particular study may wishto consult the original manuscript or publication available at thesource indicated in the summary. It is hoped that the researchreported in this publication will encourage further study and beutilized for continued improvement of our program of vocationaleducation in agriculture. \nJAMES H.PEARSON,Assistant Commissionerfor Vocational 1959-60academic year,or completed earlier and not included in previoussupplements, are presented in this supplement,No.14,to Bul-letin 180,“Summaries of Studies in Agricultural Education.”These summaries of 106 studies give a total accumulation of 3,004studies reported in this series, beginning with Bulletin 180 pub-lished in 1935.Making available to everyone in the field usablesummaries of the more significant findings of research has hadimmeasurable influence on the development of the program ofvocational agriculture through the years. An examination ofthe supplements in this series enables one to trace the strength-ening of the scientific approach to the solution of problems, whichcontributes to the further development of agricultural education. There is a notable improvement in the strengthening of researchtechniques followed in the graduate degree summaries includedin this supplement.A research program growing constantlystronger is the soundest basis for obtaining valid data to use incharting future programs. \nThe 106 studies summarized in this supplement include:15professional projects planned and conducted by members of thesupervisory and teacher-education staffs in agricultural educationin the States;14 doctoral dissertations—6 for the Ph.D.and8 for the Ed.D.;77 thesis or problem studies submitted in partial \nfulfillment of the requirements for advanced
