solicited bythe membership committees of the local associa-tions to suggest plans and methods that have beenfound effectual in membership extension. \nIn this little booklet,we are making some sug-gestions based upon methods adopted and workedout successfully at some of our local associationpoints. \nWe suggest them merely as guides and as a basisfor considering effective membership work.Outof the suggestions those must be chosen which willfit local conditions, for it will be generally appreci-ated that what will strengthen membership growthin some places will not secure the desired resultsin others. \n3 \nSUGGESTIONS FOR LOCAL MEMBERSHIPCOMMITTEES. \nA prime essential to progress in membershipwork is good literature, and each local associationshould see to it that its Membership Committee isprovided literature which will make it perfectlyclear to prospective members what the associationstands for and is doing. We recommend: \n(1).The Monthly Bulletin. \n(2).“A Builder of Conscience and Commerce.”These have been found valuable in membershipwork and will be supplied by the National officeto the local associations in quantities at exact cost. \nOf no less importance is the listing on cards byeach local association,of the commercial,manu-facturing and banking houses within its borders thatcan be classed as desirable prospects. The executiveofficers of each association should assist the Member-ship Committee in the preparation of this list, andsee that it is always kept fresh and up-to-date.This list will furnish the basis of successful andsystematic work, and each prospect should besupplied with literature at short intervals. \nThe local association's field of operations shouldnext be divided into districts, and the MembershipCommittee should comprise at least one repre-sentative from each district,or it may be consideredpreferable to segregate the commercial houses intotheir distinctive lines and have each line representedon the Membership Committee. The organizationof the Membership Committee is very important,as the willingness of its members to work is thedetermining factor in figuring results. \nThe membership campaign can be long or short,as the committee, with its understanding of localconditions, considers wise, but it is generally betterthat the membership work be persistently andsystematically continued during those months ofthe year when the association is operating underhighest pressure. \n## SUGGESTION 1.\n\nWith literature ready, lists arranged and themembers of the committee appointed according tolocality, trade and ability and enthusiasm to presentthe issue of membership, assign to each committeemember","cbCaisJqhKgeo041","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaisJqhKgeo041","pdf",315017,"English","#
