aremade up of Instruction Papers,or Sections, comprising thevarious courses of instruction for students of the InternationalCorrespondence Schools. The original manuscripts are pre-pared by persons thoroughly qualified both technically and byexperience to write with authority, and in many cases they areregularly employed elsewhere in practical work as experts. The manuscripts are then carefully edited to make them suit-able for correspondence instruction. The Instruction Papersare written clearly and in the simplest language possible,so asto make them readily understood by all students.Necessarytechnical expressions are clearly explained when introduced. \nThe great majority of our students wish to prepare them-selves for advancement in their vocations or'to qualify formore congenial occupations.Usually they are employed andable to devote only a few hours a day to study.Thereforeevery effort must be made to give them practical and accurateinformation in clear and concise form and to make this infor-mation include all of the essentials but none of the non-essentials.To make the text clear, illustrations are usedfreely. These illustrations are especially made by our ownIlustrating Department in order to adapt them fully to therequirements of the text. \nIn the table of contents that immediately follows are giventhe titles of the Sections included in this volume, and undereach title are listed the main topics discussed. \nINTERNATIONAL TEXTBOOK CoMPANY \nCONTENTS \nNoTE.—This volume is made up of a number of separate Sections, the pagenumbers of which usually begin with1.To enable the reader to distinguish betweenthe different Sections, each one is designated by a number preceded by a Sectionmark(8),which appears at the top of each page, opposite the page number. In thislist of contents, the Section number is given following the title of the Section, andunder each title appears a full synopsis of the subjects treated. The table ofcontents will enable the reader to find readily any topic covered. \nMATHEMATICS FOR STRUCTURAL DRAWING \nPages \n§13 \nSmoley's Tables.… … . 1-10 \nIntroduction;Tables of decimal equivalents;Areas
