worn \ndown parts of our world. But this process is not alwaysslow.Sometimes, weather is wild.Wind tears throughtrees and forces waves to crash with devastating poweralong the coast.Floods wash bridges and roads awaylike toy models. \nAll kinds of weather are caused by changes in thetemperature of the air.Warm air is lighter than cold air,so it tends to rise.As it rises, cooler air moves in belowto take its place. This is how wind is created. \nSometimes,wind swirls around like water runningdown a drain. In warm climates, fierce winds turn intocyclones and tornadoes. In dry climates, strong windscreate dust storms and sandstorms. In cold climates, they bring blizzards. \nRain is created by droplets of water that form intoclouds. When water in rivers and oceans becomeswarm, some of it evaporates. The warm air, with thewater vapor in it,rises. As it goes higher, the air getscooler and the vapor begins to turn back into water. These tiny droplets form into clouds. As the dropletsmove around, they join together and get bigger.Whenthey are heavy enough, they fall to the ground as rain. \nBig swirling clouds of moisture can be seen clearlyin photos taken by satellites. It is in these clouds thatwild weather begins. \nThis photo taken from space shows swirling masses ofclouds in a hurricane. \nA tropical storm viewed from space. \nHurricanes are massive, rotating tropical storms thatare also known as typhoons. They are most commonin the warm belt of ocean to the north and south ofthe Equator. They usually begin around areas of lowpressure where the surface of the sea is extra warm. \nWarm,moist air rushes toward the area of lowpressure and swirls around it.As the warm watervapor rises, more warm air rushes in.The tons ofwater vapor form a storm that spins in ever tighter \ncircles as it travels across the ocean, gathering strength xwith each new rush of warm air. These storm systemscan be huge, sometimes 500 miles (800 kilometers)from one side to another. \nThe center of this swirling mass is called the eye ofthe storm.Everything is calm inside the eye,but therain and wind ","cbCaij81XC739MjM","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaij81XC739MjM","pdf",3765996,36,"English","#
