This review explores some of the examples of stem cells used in cancer immunotherapy, including hematopoietic, mesenchymal, and induced pluripotent stem cells (IPSCs) . It also describes stem cell functionalities like modifying tumor microenvironment (TME) and developing engineered immune cells like chimeric antigen receptor (CAR)-T cells and natural killer (NK) cells. Additionally, the clinical applications of stem cells for improving cancer immunotherapies and delivering drugs directly to solid tumors are discussed. However, several challenges limit the effectiveness of stem cell technology, including safety risks, tumor avoidance by the immune system, and regulatory protocols as well as manufacturing barriers. This article reviews current advancements to overcome these challenges, such as CRISPR-based gene editing and targeted drug delivery systems and provides an outlook on emerging trends, such as the progress of personalized stem cell therapies and the increasing effectiveness of treatment by combining them with other cancer treatments. \nHighlights \n● Stem cells are significant in cancer immunotherapy due to their tumor-targeting abilities and role in altering the tumor microenvironment. \n● Stem cells can modify the tumor microenvironment by delivering therapeutic agents and suppressing cancer-promoting factors. \n● Stem cells function as carriers for oncolytic viruses, permitting targeted elimination of cancer cells with minimal influence on healthy tissues. \n● The integration of CRISPR-Cas9 technology has enhanced the precision and safety of stem cell-based immunotherapies. \n● Personalized stem cell therapies are being considered to improve accessibility and scalability. \nKeywords Cancer · Immunotherapy · Stem cells · Microenvironment · CRISPR · CAR-T cells \n􀀍 Abdul Wasy Zia[a.zia@hw.ac.uk](a.zia@hw.ac.uk) \n􀀍 Shihab Uddin [shihab.uddin@kfupm.edu.sa](shihab.uddin@kfupm.edu.sa) \n1 Department of Bioengineering, King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals, 31261 Dhahran, Saudi Arabia \n2 Center for Biosystems and Machines, King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals, 31261 Dhahran, Saudi Arabia \n3 Interdisciplinary Research Center for Membranes and Water Security, King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, 31261 Dhahran, Saudi Arabia \n4 Department of Biological Engineering, Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, 77 Massachusetts Avenue, Cambridge, MA 02139, USA \n5 Department of Control & Instrumentation Engineering, King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals, 31261 Dhahran, Saudi Arabia \n6 Institute of Mechanical, Process, and Energy Engineering (IMPEE), School of Engineering and Physical Sciences, Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh EH14 4AS, UK \nIntroduction \nCancer, a rapidly progressing disease of uncontrolled cellular growth, is one of the leading causes of death around the world [1] . Statistics have projected that there would be nearly 2,001,140 new cancer incidents and 611,720 cancer mortalities expected for the year 2024 in the United States, based on incidence statistics gathered from central cancer registries and mortality data collected from the National Center for Health Statistics. The same study indicates that cancer mortality rates continue to decrease because of some factors, including reduced smoking, early detection, and improv","cbCaiv3Em8RztRo7","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaiv3Em8RztRo7","pdf",2522458,24,"English","# Abstract\n# Highlights\n# Keywords\n# Introduction","[{\"question\":\"Which types of stem cells are discussed for cancer immunotherapy?\",\"answer\":\"The review covers hematopoietic, mesenchymal, and induced pluripotent stem cells (IPSCs).
