Kyungho Choo  \nDeputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance  \nKorea  \non behalf of the constituency comprising Australia, Cambodia, Kiribati, Korea, the Marshall Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, Mongolia, Nauru, New Zealand, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu  \n108th Meeting of the Development Committee  \nOctober 12, 2023  \nMarrakech, Morocco  \nAs we meet for the 108th meeting of the Development Committee, our constituency would like to extend our deepest condolences to the survivors and the families of victims of the earthquake in Morocco and flooding in Libya. Our thoughts are with the Moroccan and Libyan people. We greatly appreciate the hospitality of the Moroccan authorities, particularly at this difficult time.  \nWe condemn Russia’s invasion of Ukraine as a violation of international law, including the UN Charter. Russia’s aggression has led not only to a direct humanitarian toll but has also contributed to food and energy insecurity, and economic instability in poor and vulnerable countries. We express our sympathy for the loss of life from this unprovoked and unjustified war and full solidarity with the people of Ukraine. We continue to underscore the need to reach comprehensive, just, and lasting peace in Ukraine consistent with the UN Charter and for greater international cooperation and strengthened multilateralism to prevent fragmentation and safeguard global peace and prosperity.  \nGlobal Economy and Development Challenges  \nOver the past 12 months, the global economy has shown resilience in the face of a number of shocks. Financial markets have stabilized, and global inflation is receding. But global growth is now showing signs of weakness and financial conditions are tightening. The balance of risk is tilted to the downside and has the potential to jeopardize the fledgling post-pandemic economic recovery.  \nThese impacts are being acutely felt by countries in our constituency, many of which are also facing the significant burdens ofthe climate crisis, natural disasters, elevated debt vulnerabilities, spillovers of rising geoeconomic fragmentation and monetary policy tightening in the advanced economies. We are deeply concerned about the strains on our constituency members. More broadly, we are concerned that these intertwined and mutually reinforcing challenges, have stalled our progress towards meeting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and are impacting on the most vulnerable in society, including women and youth.  \nAddressing these mounting development challenges requires strong and coordinated efforts from the international community. The World Bank, in close collaboration with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and other development partners. It must further strengthen its institutional capacity and be a global leader in the crisis response and addressing the long-term development goals of client countries.  \nWBG Evolution agenda  \nVison and Mission  \nWe welcome the World Bank’s new vision and mission that sets a high ambition to accelerate progress towards the SDGs.
