\nApril 22,2022 \nWashington,DC \nWe join the international community in condemning the invasion of Ukraine. We are deeplyconcerned about the loss of life and humanitarian crisis triggered by the war,as well as its detrimentalimpact on the global economy;including through sanctions. As our economies began to recover -albeitunevenly-from the impacts caused by the COVID-19 pandemic,we were struck by the conflict in Ukraineand its consequent shock in global markets. In an international context already challenged by supply chaindisruptions, rising energy prices, and broad-based inflation, the conflict in Ukraine threatens the world withthe fastest-growing refugee crisis since World War I and the possibility of a looming energy and foodcrisis. \nThe World Bank Group counts on resources, technical and financial, that contribute towards thereduction of effects from social and economic distress because of the war.The World Bank Group canprovide support to countries assisting displaced communities and refugees. Also, the WBG can focus ontechnical assistance and development finance in the areas of energy and food supply. \nThe current global challenges stress the need for a combination of renewable energy investmentswith increasing food productivity. In this context,Brazil stands out as a provider of sustainable solutionsfor the world both in energy and food security. economic impacts of the pandemic. \nBrazil developed means to better employ technological capabilities that promoted a silentrevolution in favor of the economy and society. The 2020 World Bank“Gov establishing strong and inclusive digitalfoundations to contribute to the twin goals of reducing poverty and promoting shared prosperity in asustainable manner. \nThe rapid and comprehensive response by the Brazilian Government was decisive to prevent moreprofound social impacts. The Brazilian Emergency Aid program benefited 68 million informal andvulnerable workers, preserved more than 11million jobs and enabled the injection of almost 8.5 percent ofthe GDPinto the economy in the first year of the pandemic. This was made possible by digitally processingthe operation of the benefit as well as leveraging digital assets in the selection and onboarding ofbeneficiaries and implementing online payment methods for the grants. \nAnother crucial breakthrough was the creation of the “Pix system”by the Brazilian monetaryauthority. The“Pix”,as we call it,is a payment platform that allows instant money transfers betweenindividuals, companies, and the government using a smartphone.Ever since, older payment forms arebecoming obsolete in view of a more efficient, cheaper and inclusive system. \nThese initiatives are part of a digital government strategy focused on citizen-centric policies whichaim
