Nureddin Nebati Minister of Treasury and Finance \nTürkiye \nOn behalf of Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Hungary, Kosovo, Luxembourg, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, and Türkiye \nStatement by \nH.E. Nureddin Nebati \nMinister of Treasury and Finance \nTürkiye \nOn behalf of Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Hungary, \nKosovo, Luxembourg, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, and Türkiye \n107th Meeting of the Development Committee \nApril 12, 2023 \nWashington, DC \nWe would like to express our sincere appreciation to the World Bank Group (WBG) staff who contributed to achieving record level commitments and disbursements in fiscal year 2022 with an increased focus on the most vulnerable countries and regions and against a background of poly-crises. We welcome the record amount of climate finance committed during the same period. \nWe are deeply saddened by the two devastating earthquakes and multiple aftershocks of February 6, 2023 that struck southern Türkiye and northern Syria causing a large number of casualties and significant damages. We stand together with the people ofTürkiye and Syria in these difficult times. It is reassuring to see the international community’s swift humanitarian response. We appreciate the Bank’s commitment announcing an initial volume of US$1 .78 billion for recovery and reconstruction efforts in Türkiye as along-standing development partner and look forward to IFC and MIGA’s critical support to the Turkish private sector which will play a significant role in the recovery process. \nIt has been over a year since Russia initiated its unprovoked and unjustified full-scale military aggression against Ukraine. We wish to reiterate our deepest solidarity with the Ukrainian people and all who are suffering from this invasion and its spill-over effects. We strongly condemn Russia’s invasion, and weremain supportive of Ukraine’s sovereignty within its internationally recognized borders. The global impact of the prolonged war, not least through rising prices for food and energy, is undermining the WBG’s mission to deliver on its Twin Goals. We call for an end of Russia’s aggression in Ukraine which would give way to lasting peace. We commend WBG Management for the swift and decisive response and the updated Rapid Damage and Needs Assessment (RDNA), in collaboration with the Government of Ukraine, the European Commission and the United Nations. The RDNA provides invaluable analyses and sets the agenda for all development partners to prioritize investment needs and mobilize financing for reconstruction and recovery. \nWe appreciate that the WBG is well on track to deliver its surge finance commitments’ target by the end of FY23 within the Global Crisis Response Framework (GCRF) . In particular, we congratulate WBG Management for exceeding the US$12 billion in new investments to help respond to the global food crisis since April 2022, well ahead of the target set for June 2023. We note that the new commitments for food and nutrition security are evenly balanced between crisis response and facilitating long-term resilience, with 50 per cent of new financing committed to Africa. We encourage Management to further sharpen its focus on the most vulnerable and those that have been most adversely affected by the external shocks and supply chains disruptions. In addition, we urge the WBG to continue to closely monitor evolving risks and spillovers and call for strong collaboration and coordination with the IMF and other International Financial Institutions (IFIs) . \nEvolution Roadmap \nMission and vision \nAs the past years of poly-crises have shown, development progress can be fragi","cbCairjPxFHYox7q","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCairjPxFHYox7q","pdf",174429,5,1,"English","en",105,"# Statement by H.E.
