Nearly 700 million people worldwide live in extreme poverty and subsist on less than US$2 .15 a day. Half of them are children. We are witnessing the materialization of the risk of the reversal of the conquests achieved.  \nClimate change, food insecurity, energy access, and forced migrations are just a few of the challenges that require urgent action, following the natural tragedy of the pandemic and conflicts that have far-reaching consequences, affecting even countries struggling with poverty and hunger. Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) region – that includes middle-and high-income countries--is not immune to these global risks and, like all other economies, needs to be prepared for a persistently difficult global situation by reinforcing macroeconomic frameworks and foster stability under a very restrictive external financing environment and lack of fiscal space. At the same time, the region has been recently affected by governance issues, more frequent and severe natural disasters, and intra-regional migration, which are challenging the sustainability of the economic and social progress achieved before the pandemic.  \nDue to these overlapping crises, the role of the World Bank Group (WBG) is now more crucial than ever. During the last Annual Meetings in Marrakesh, Governors endorsed the new vision (\"to create a world free of poverty on a livable planet\") and the new mission (\"to end extreme poverty and boost shared prosperity on a livable planet by strengthening inclusion, resilience, and sustainability\"); as well as the definition of the eight Global Challenges (GCs) . This was undoubtedly a turning point in the World Bank's Evolution.  \nWe believe that the DC Paper presents a comprehensive and balanced account of the deliberations and agreements that have emerged post the annual meeting in Marrakesh. While the document successfully captures the primary outcomes that the Board has agreed upon, there are some issues that deserve a more in-depth elaboration and discussion.  \nWe welcome the new scorecard, focusing on outcomes and real-time accountability. However, the new version of the DC paper should enhance the proposed indicator breakdown by including additional levels of disaggregation, specifically by Region, Country Group, and differentiating between countries above and below the Graduation Discussion Income (GDI) threshold.  \nWe are confident that the recent decision to have joint representatives in the countries offices will serve not only to improve coordination among the World Bank Group institutions, but also to create synergies in public-private projects, PPPs, and to promote strategic industries and sectors.
