We are resolute in our commitment to provide assistance to these nations in this time of profound need. As a global community, we face multiple challenges. Russia’s unjustified invasion of Ukraine continues to take a terrible toll. Ontop of the untold human suffering it has caused, the invasion continues to exacerbate global food and energy insecurity, worsen poverty, and heighten public debt vulnerabilities. International support is essential in order to relieve the immense human and economic suffering this invasion has caused in Ukraine and other countries. Our constituency commends the World Bank Group for mobilising much-needed financial resources, and for being the first multilateral bank to re-open its office in Kyiv.  \nThese developments are unfolding against the backdrop of a worsening climate crisis, loss of biodiversity, debt distress, and energy and food insecurity that are placing the Sustainable Development Goals further out of reach. The window of opportunity to stay below the 1.5⁰C global warming threshold is closing. These views have been vividly expressed at recent summits in Paris, Nairobi, New Delhi and New York.  \nThis annual meeting therefore comes at a crucial moment. The initiative of the World Bank Group to enhance its mission to ‘create a world free of poverty on a liveable planet’ serves both as a sign of hope and as a wake-up call. As shareholders of the World Bank Group, we must find ways – in partnership with other development banks, development organisations, the United Nations and civil society – to make the Bank’s mission a reality.  \nEvolution  \nThe new mission starts from the premise that the multiple crises we face do not respect borders. Our constituency is a strong supporter of the initiatives aimed at reforming the World Bank Group so that it is better prepared to help tackle challenges such as climate change and pandemic preparedness. It is essential that the needs of client countries remain at the forefront of the reforms under consideration in this forum, and that more attention is paid to those whose voices too often go unheard, especially women, girls and young people.  \nOur constituency welcomes the achievements of the Evolution Process so far, though we recognise that much more needs to be done. We fully support the Bank’s revised mission and vision. We also welcome the course proposed in the document ‘Evolution of the World Bank Group – A Report to Governors’ with a view to enhancing service delivery.
