On behalf of the Africa II Group, I welcome the renewed focus on jobs. After addressing the role of the private sector in powering jobs, during the Spring Meetings, this update on the essential role of the public sector, especially the vital role of IDA and IBRD to help countries lay the ground for the jobs agenda, is welcome. We need decent and good-paying jobs, especially for the youth and women, to confront global challengesand ensure our shared prosperity and stability.  \nDeveloping countries face daunting challenges such as debt and deficits, fiscal constraints, the impact of geopolitical and trade tensions, fragility, conflicts and violence, illegal migration, climate shocks and environmental degradation. In Sub Saharan Africa, the World Bank Group estimates that 620 million young people will become working-age adults by 2050. Besides, SSA is home to two-thirds ofthe World’spoor, and 85 per cent of people without access to electricity. Over the same decade, Africa will be home to more than a quarter of the World’s youth. Africa II Group remains committed to working with the World Bank Group on reforms designed to achieve structural economic transformation and sustainable growth. That said, we have key messages.  \nFirst, we agree with the system-wide approach to jobs, anchored in five priority sectors as powerful engines for jobs and a strategic role for IBRD and IDA. By providing financial instruments, knowledge and guarantees, the Bank is rightly positioned to foster a closer partnership between the Governments and the private sector that accounts for 90 percent of the jobs creation. We need good and decent paying jobs to harness the demographic dividend in developing countries, especially in SSA. These efforts are particularly salient in IDA and FCV settings. We therefore welcome the IDA21 private sector window and the FCV envelope.  \nSecond, on higher productivity sectors, we support the focus on Infrastructure and energy, Agribusiness, Healthcare, Tourism, and Value-added manufacturing as sectors standing out as especially powerful engines for creating and shaping jobs. We urge the Bank to further delve into the Minerals and Metals sector, including by enhancing value-added chains, as these sectors are vital to tomorrow’s jobs and to addressing climate change. On resilient infrastructure, we refer to the Bangui Declaration of the 2025 African Caucus to echo the call by the African Governors ofthe IMF and the WBG to develop innovative financing solutions that prioritize client countries’ financial sustainability over dependency, underpinned by fit-forpurpose reforms in support of resilient infrastructure development that meet the countries climate adaptation and resilience. The recent floods in many African countries are a stark reminder of these challenges, especially for small states. We also insist on the implementation of Mission-300, as a prerequisite for jobs in SSA.
