Rogelio Eduardo Ramirez de la O, Secretary of Finance and Public Credit of Mexico, on behalf of multiple Central American and Spain representatives at the 105th Meeting of the Development Committee (April 22, 2022, Washington, DC). The remarks call for universal peace and support for World Bank Group measures to reverse war effects in Ukraine and mitigate global economic and financial repercussions. They highlight deteriorating poverty, inequality, health, education, security, and migration pressures intensified by geopolitical tension and COVID-19 impacts, discuss revised growth and inflation outlooks, and urge action under the FCV strategy focusing on food insecurity and migration, alongside debt urgency and a faster Common Framework process.","Public Disclosure Authorized \nPublic behalf of Costa Rica,EI Salvador,Guatemala,Honduras,Mexico,Nicaragua, and Kingdom of Spain \nStatement by \nH.E.Rogelio Eduardo Ramirez de la OSecretary of Finance and Public Credit \nMexico \nOn behalf of Costa Rica,EI Salvador,Guatemala,Honduras,Mexico,Nicaragua, and Kingdom of Spain \n105ᵗhMeeting of the Development Committee \nApril 22,2022 \nWashington,DC \nHumanity is facing a complex crossroad with great and crucial challenges to the economic, political, social, and environmental development for all nations. In this regard, the Spring 2022 Development Committeemeeting provides a timely opportunity to have an in-depth reflection and a constructive dialogue forendorsing our strongest commitment to universal peace. \nIn the Security Council and in the General Assembly of the United Nations(UN),some of our countrieshave voted to condemn the invasion of Ukraine, called for an immediate ceasefire, and have promotedurgent humanitarian actions. In this Development Committee,we do reiterate that position and,in addition, express our support for the World Bank Group(WBG)to design and implement relevant measures aimedat reversing the effects of the war in Ukraine and other war-affected countries, and to mitigate its globaleconomic and financial repercussions. \nThe combination of the effects caused by geopolitical tension and those derived from the economic andhealth crisis resulting from COVID-19 is a major concern, since those effects feedback and magnify eachother.Indicators of poverty, inequality, malnutrition, health, education, security, and migration aredeteriorating at great speed, and they could have devastating consequences on global economic and socialdevelopment in the medium term, which would consequently imply an additional threat to worldwidestability and peace. \nCurrently,the outlook for global economic growth for 2022 has been revised downwards from January'sestimates (from 4.4%to 3.6%)and the Latin America and Caribbean countries appear underperforming \n(2.5%),only behind Emerging and Developing Europe(contracting by -2.9%)which is the most affectedregion by war \nIn recent months headline inflation and its projections have substantially risen, now forecast for 2022 are \n5.7%in Advance Economies(AE)and 8.7%in Emerging Markets and Developing Economies (EMDEs).In fact, during March 2022 some countries experienced the sharpest price increase in decades, marking aturning point in low and stable inflation.Hence,in many AE central banks might need to adjust their policystance more rapidly than previously anticipated.Similarly,EMDEs continued to raise their interest rates tocontain inflationary pressures and to preserve their interest rate spreads vis-a-vis those in AE's.Thetightening cycle in monetary policy is expected to remain worldwide. \nRising prices for energy, raw materials, fertilizers, and food, along with the increase in interest rates, willexacerbate vulnerabilities in middle-income countries(MICs),where 75 per cent of the world's populationand 62 per cent of the poor live.It is estimated that only because of the COVID-19 pandemic the numberof poor increased by about 100 million people,a figure that will be further increased by the effects ofinflation and economic stagnation. \nUnder the Strategy for Fragility,Conflict and Violence(FCV)we call the WBG to attend with ourconstituency two major concerns:food insecurity and migration.According to FAO,in 2020 the populationsuffering from moderate and severe food insecurity augmented by 320 million people,to reach a globalfigure of 2.37 billion people. It should be noted that","cbCaiaggEkkHliPK","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaiaggEkkHliPK","pdf",335420,1,3,"English","en",105,"# Statement by\n## Scope
