There are stringent guidelines to which all families must adhere when applying for accommodations for the SAT and/or the ACT. \n— \nFor questions about testing accommodations or applying for additional accommodations, please contact Academic Support: \n[email](email academic_support@suffieldacademy.org)[ academic_support@suffieldacademy.org](email academic_support@suffieldacademy.org)[ ](email academic_support@suffieldacademy.org)phone 860.386.4484 \n— \nFor questions about College Board and ACT testing, please contact College Counseling: \n[email](email mrusczyk@suffieldacademy.org)[ mrusczyk@suffieldacademy.org](email mrusczyk@suffieldacademy.org)[ ](email mrusczyk@suffieldacademy.org)phone 860.386.4452 \nEXTENDED TIME \nExtended time tends to be a confusing topic for many. The reality is that most people would benefit from extended time on standardized tests, but only certain students qualify to receive it. Suffield Academy upholds the requirements of the College Board and the ACT, and in order to apply for extended time and/or special testing on the SAT and/or the ACT for your child, all of the following must be true: \n• Your child has documentation (including BOTH cognitive and achievement assessments) through psycho-educational testing, indicating he or she qualifies for extended time. \n• Testing has been updated within the past 3 years. \n• Suffield Academy has a copy of all testing. \n• Your child has been receiving accommodations from Suffield Academy based on this testing. \nAPPLYING FOR EXTENDED TIME FOR THE SAT \nIf you wish to have Suffield Academy apply for extended time with the College Board, you must notify the school between the spring of your child’s sophomore year and the summer before the junior year begins. Please contact Academic Support at [academic_support@suffieldacademy.org](academic_support@suffieldacademy.org) requesting that we complete an application for extended time for the College Board. Please note that the application process is detailed, and the College Board requires several weeks (up to 7) to review applications for extended time. The first application opportunity for extended time is for the PSAT administered in October of the junior year. If your child is approved, this approval carries through all administrations of the College Board tests (PSAT, SAT, SAT II Subject Tests, and APs) . Per your request, we will apply for extended time approval, but the responsibility for registering for the SATs remains with the student/family. If approved for accommodations, the College Board will assign your child an SSD number. In order for extended time accommodations to be provided for the test, this number must be used whenever registering for a College Board administered test. \nAPPLYING FOR EXTENDED TIME FOR THE ACT \nThe process for requesting accommodations and registering for the ACT happen simultaneously. Please read the following directions carefully, as the school cannot complete the request for accommodations until the family begins the registration process. \nHOW TO REGISTER FOR THE ACT WITH \nACCOMMODATIONS \n1 Go to the ACT website [at](at actstudent.org)[ actstudent.org](at actstudent.org) \n2 Click the link to sign up and create an account or login to an existing account. \n3 Register for the ACT test. \n4 Indicate the need for accommodations. \n5 Select the type of accommodation you need. Please be aware that anything beyond 50% extended time is considered “special testing” and needs to be coordinated with the school.
