depth of earth filling, using highyield strength deformed bors, are being brought out for the first time.As Box-Culverts,beingeconomical,are the basic feoture related to development of any highway stretch,it was foundthat considerable time and duplication efforts can be avoided by adopting standord plan forBox-Culvert Structures. \nThis volume.the first in the series of standard drawings for Box-Culverts,contains standardplans for 104 combinations of Box-Culverts with various heights of earth filling(i.e.0.0m, \n3.0m,4.0m and 5.0m heights of earth filling)and covers. The clear span variation of 2.0m to \n8.0m with combinations of clear height.of 2.0m to 7.0m.This volume contoins the mostcommon options of single cell box-culvert,double cell box-culvert and triple cell box-culvert.It also contains the standard drawings for PCC wing walls, curtain walls, floor protectiondetoils and other relevant details related to box-culverts. \nThe designs are based on Standard Specifications and Code of Practice for Highway Bridgesissued by indian Roads Congress.Special attention has been given to durability aspects ofthe structure by adopting various provisions of IRC:21-1997.For construction purposes,Specifications for Road and Bridge Works issued by Ministry of Surface.Transport(RoadsWing).Government of India,as amended from time to time, will apply. The standard drawingscan be adopted for cross-drainage as well as underpass structures. \nThe plans have been made complete in all respects so that they can be readily adopted folpreparation of estimates and serve as construction drawings in the field: \nTo simplify the estimation work, the quantities for major items for each of 104 cases areincluded in a tabular form.A great deal of attention has been paid to dimensioning anddetailing so as to ensure proper placement and compaction of concrete during construction.I have no doubt, the adoption of these Standard Plan/Drawing will not only result in fasterconstruction but will also enhance the quality and durability of Box-Culvert Structures. \nEvery possible care has been taken to eliminate errors in the Drawings.Users are requestedto bring to our notice errors and omissions,if any, which may come to their notice duringthe use of these drawings n the filed. \nThe work of preparing the Designs and Drawings was corried out by M/s ConsultingEngineering Services(1)Ltd.and independent proof checking by M/s Tandon ConsultantsPvt.Ltd.,New Delhi.Equally valuable contributions in the finalisotion of the design anddetails were made by Officers of MOST.The enthusiosm and dedication which this team hasbrought to bear on the task are to be highly appreciated. \n.00.00 \n(Prafulla Kumar) \nNew Delhi \nDirector General(Road
