The course is designed to increase problem-solving abilities and data interpretation through practical applications of statistical concepts. This course is appropriate for students in a wide range of disciplines and programs. (The combination of STA2023 and STA2122 will not meet the six-hour math General Education requirement. An additional three hours in math will be required.) \nStudent Learning Outcomes: \nStudents will: \n• Visualize and summarize data using descriptive statistics. \n• Apply basic probability concepts to draw reasonable conclusions. \n• Employ concepts of random variables, sampling distributions, and central limit theorem to analyze and interpret representations of data. \n• Choose an appropriate method of inferential statistics, including confidence intervals and hypothesis testing, to make broader decisions based on sample data. \n• Model linear relationships between quantitative variables using correlation and linear regression. \nCourse Materials & Resources: \nRequired Textbook/Access Code: Elementary Statistics with MyLab Access, Larson, 8th edition, 2023, Pearson, ISBN 9780137493500 (18 week) . \nOptional Textbook: You may purchase a physical textbook to go along with the required MyLab access. Packages of both are available at the bookstore. \nRequired Materials: TI-83/84 family calculator. \nDelivery Method: \nThis is a web-based course. All online courses at GCSC utilize the Canvas Learning System. Students should read all information presented in the Canvas course site and should periodically check for updates--at least every 48 hours. Remember: This course is not one in which students may work at their own pace. Each week, there are learning modules, assignments, online lectures, online discussions, and/or online exams with due dates. Refer to the schedule within this syllabus for more information. \nStudent Expectations \nIn this course, communication and feedback will occur through various channels, including GCSC email, Canvas Inbox, Canvas Announcements, Canvas Discussions, Microsoft Teams or Zoom, assignment feedback, and instructor office hours. Review the statements below so that you understand the expectations for communication. \nAs a student at Gulf Coast State College, you are expected to: \n• Adhere to Course Guidelines: Follow the guidelines detailed in the course syllabus, along with any additional instructions provided by the instructor. This includes understanding and complying with the course objectives, grading criteria, and academic policies. \n• Maintain Regular Contact: Keep in touch with your instructor and classmates via your GCSC email or other designated communication channels. Regular contact helps clarify doubts, share ideas, and foster a collaborative learning environment. \n• Active Participation: Engage actively in class discussions and submit assignments on time. Your active participation is crucial for your academic success and contributes to a vibrant learning community. \nAs your instructor, my com","cbCailAOsSsxYtQc","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCailAOsSsxYtQc","pdf",484736,"English","# Course Information\n## Catalog Description\n## Student Learning Outcomes\n## Course Materials & Resources\n## Student Expectations\n# Course Schedule\n## Units and Unit Tests\n## Weekly Suggested Sections and Due Items","[{\"question\":\"What statistical topics will students learn in STA 2023?\",\"answer\":\"Students learn descriptive statistics, probability concepts, random variables, sampling distributions, the central limit theorem, confidence intervals, hypothesis testing, and linear regression with correlation.\"},{\"question\":\"What are the required learning materials and tools?\",\"answer\":\"The required materials include Elementary Statistics with MyLab Access (Larson, 8th edition, 2023) and a TI-83/84 family calculator.\"},{\"question\":\"How is the course delivered and how should students track updates?\",\"answer\":\"The course is web-based using Canvas.
