At this point in the summer we hold in our hearts in a very special way our young people who graduated from high school this past spring and are getting ready to begin college, some leaving home for the first time in their lives. What an exciting time this is for them, though not without some stress and anxiety. \nThat is why we hope that as many of them as possible will join us at the 11:30 Mass this Sunday to receive a special blessing and be acknowledged by their fellow parishioners as we assure them of our love and our prayers as they begin this exciting new adventure in their lives. May they stay close to God always in whatever they do as the beautiful plan He has for their lives unfolds in the years ahead. \nWe pray in the Responsorial Psalm this weekend:“O God let all the nations praise you!” God’s plan to draw all peoples to Himself began with His choice of the Jewish people, the people of Israel. God chose the people of Israel to be a people uniquely His own, not for their sake only, but to be a light to all people of every race and nation. For it was from the Jewish people that God would bring forth our Savior, Jesus Christ, to draw all peoples to Salvation through Faith in Him. As St. Paul said: “God wills that all people be saved and come to the knowledge of the Truth.” \nWe see a foreshadowing of this Universal Salvific Will of God in that interesting encounter between Jesus and the Canaanite woman in the Gospel for this 20th Week in Ordinary Time.
