God in time and ineternity,and for the mutual love and consolation of husband and wife,is one of Christ's seven sacraments.It is a solemn and sacred contract.It is the source of the various types and degrees of sacramental grace whichare so necessary to husband and wife in the discharge of their maritalduties and in the enjoyment of their marital rights.Christian marriageis the cornerstone of the Christian home.The sowing of the seed ofChristian culture belongs to the home.Only when the home performs thisimportant operation,are children prepared properly for the facile effec-tiveness of the functions of the Church and school.  \nThere is no need to dwell on the necessity of such an entity as an Instituteof Christian Marriage.The factor of the complexity of modern livingalone presents sufficient reason for a Catholic university to initiate suchan institute.When,universally,the sacredness of contracts,the con-cept of the supernatural,and parental authority are being challenged bya sizeable segment of people,it is high time that the leaders of Catholicthought and action devote their labors to a complete study of the Chris-tian idea of marriage from the standpoint of every science which in anyway deals with problems concerning the married state,the subjects of  \nthe sacrament of matrimony,and the child,the tangibly precious resultof the marital act.  \nSt.John's
