Questions like “who am I”,“why am Ihere”, what purpose or meaning does my life have”,“am I just a product of chance”,“does my life – or life itself – have any intrinsic value”, are pervasive. In a period where the Christian faith in the West dominated most peoples’lives these questions were rare. People found their identity in their relationship with God, with family, and within their communities. As many sociologists point out, all three are severely wanting in much of our contemporary society. Rejection of God for some esoteric ‘spirituality’, an unwillingness on the part of many to want to get married and have a family, and a growing isolationism from the world around us all lead to this ‘identity crisis’ many find themselves struggling with. Some ignore the questions altogether and escape into fantasy lands of entertainment, sensual pleasure, and other modes of unreality. Others attempt to change their gender identity; still others attempt to find their identity in accumulating wealth, power, and prestige. The fact that the many who take this road find themselves still dissatisfied is a clear sign that something is missing. That these things sooner or later ring hollow is a pointed sign that something greater is awaiting us.
As we celebrate the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord this Sunday, we are reminded that we are “called and consecrated”. We are called by God and consecrated in His love. The Baptism fount that God called us to is not mere water or some nice ritual. It is an immersion into the life of the Holy Trinity. It is a true becoming sons and daughters of God through the cleansing of sin and being clothed in the new life of Christ. Our consecration is a union of love that conquers even death itself.
The loss of understanding of this great gift has led countless Christians to demean their own dignity. We see this in abortion, chemical addictions, crime and violence, bullying, war and genocide, promiscuity and pornography, a general disrespect for one’s own body and that of others.
As we celebrate this feast, the first of the Sacraments of Initiation, where we find our true identity and dignity as sons and daughters of God, we are reminded that we have eminent dignity, value, and","cbCainIt0VY0EhLJ","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCainIt0VY0EhLJ","pdf",1018908,"English","# Mass Schedule
## Sundays and Weekdays
## Holy Days and Reconciliation
# Announcements
## Monthly 50/50 Raffle
## Save the Date: 8th Annual Card Party
# Collections
## Second Collection for Electric/Heat
# Weekly Mass Intentions","[{"question":"What is the theme of the reflection for the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord?","answer":"The reflection emphasizes being “called and consecrated” through baptism, describing baptism as an immersion into the life of the Holy Trinity and a true renewal of life in Christ."},{"question":"What is the Sunday Mass schedule for January 12, 2025?","answer":"Sundays list Masses at 8:30 a.m., 10:00 a.m., and 11:30 a.m., with Spanish-Once a Month on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. (as stated on the schedule section)."},{"question":"What parish event is scheduled as a fundraiser and what are the dates mentioned?","answer":"The bulletin includes a Monthly 50/50 Raffle with a next winner picked on February 5, 2025, and it also lists a Save the Date for the church’s 8th Annual Card Party on March 15, 2025."}]","St. Bernard of Clairvaux Church - Feast of the Baptism of the Lord - January 12, 2025 | PDF",1790575604]
