The cohort had long absences from school due to Covid-19, faced uneven access to digital learning, and was the first group without earlier national assessments at Year 6 and Form 3. Improved national average grade (GPK) and rises in A+ and straight A+ achievements were reported for both urban and rural candidates. The results are framed as evidence of adaptability, system reform, and the need to sustain a more responsive, resilient, and equitable education worried about. But they have turned theworry to national glory by producing the best re-sults in five years.Mind you, this was the first batchof SPM candidates that did not sit for Ujian PencapaianSekolah Rendah in Year 6 and Pentaksiran Tingkatan 3 inForm 3.To do so well is certainly a feat. The 2025 results areall the sweeter considering the students'long absence fromschool caused by Covid-19 disruption. No students everexperienced such a disruption, let alonethe country.Digitalclasses were an experiment for the SPM students and theirteachers.Besides, access to digital learning was not even, leading to concerns of widening achievement gaps.( \nThe SPM2025 results not only exceeded expectations, buthave also challenged the narrative of inevitable learningloss. It shows that with the right interventions, resiliencecan be cultivated and outcomes can improve even underadverse conditions:Well doneto all, includingteachers.Notan easy task, given that SPM 2025 students were the firstbatch of candidates who did not sit for any major ex-aminations till the SPM level.Still, they turned in an im-proved national average grade(GPK)of 4.42,better than last \nyear's4.49and 2021's4.86.The GPKscore also improved for both urbanand rural candidates, with that ofthe former improving to 4.4 from \nThe 2025 \nresults are \nall the sweeter \n4.47 in 2024 and that of the latterimproving to 4.81 from 4.92 of theprevious year. For SPM,gradepoints are assigned to each grade, with lower numbers representinghigher achievement.A lower GPKnumber indicates better overall re-sults.A total of 13,779 earned A+,Aand A-grades in all subjects lastyear, compared with 13,827 in 2024. \nconsidering the \nstudents'long \nabsence from \nschool caused \nby Covid-19 \ndisruption. \nSINAR HARIAN [ \nTHE STAR \nHowever,376 candidates achieved \nstraight A+results,up from 352 the year before.Orang Aslistudents, too, did better, with 1,768 of the 2,128 candidatesqualifying for the SPM certificate,an improvement from② \n1,527 in2024. \nBut to view this success purely through the lens of gradeswould be a mistake. This cohort's achievement is also atestament to adaptability.Students learned to navigatehybrid environments, teachers retooled their methods andparents became more involved in the learning process. These are intangible gains that do not show up in aggregatescores, but will shape the future of education. There is also adeeper implication that the Covid-19 pandemic may haveaccelerated reforms that were long overdue.Greater use ofdata, more personalised learning approaches and strongerintervention mechanisms are now part of the system'stoolkit.Perhaps the most important takeaway is that sys-tems,when properly mobilised, can outperform expec-tations.The task now is to ensure that this is not re-membered as a one-off success story, but as the foundationof a more responsive, resilient and equitable educationsystem.","cbCaikGG1BVToYmx","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaikGG1BVToYmx","pdf",1407092,"English","# SPM 2025 Cohort Background\n## Impact of Covid-19 and digital learning\n# Performance Results
