Despite the centrality of questions as communicative instruments in legislative settings, existing scholarship in pragmatic linguistics has devoted limited attention to the systematic analysis of interrogative utterances within the high-stakes, institutionally asymmetric environment of parliamentary hearings. This study addresses that gap by conducting a mixed-methods analysis that combines qualitative pragmatic examination with quantitative frequency mapping.\nThe primary corpus consists of twenty-two (22) interrogative utterances extracted from a publicly available video recording of the hearing, focusing on the questioning exchange between Senator Josh Hawley and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, supplemented by questions from Senators Dick Durbin and Lindsey Graham. The analytical framework draws on Searle's (1969, 1979) taxonomy of illocutionary acts, Tsui's (1994) typology of conversational questions, and frameworks from political discourse analysis proposed by Fairclough (1989), van Dijk (1993), and Ilie (1999).
