They endorsed the objectives and focus areas of the CPF to support South Africa’s efforts to promote competition and improve the business environment, strengthen MSME and skills development for job creation-especially for the youth-and improve the infrastructure investment framework. Directors agreed that these focus areas are critical to help address long-standing constraints to a growing, inclusive economy and support South Africa to overcome the Apartheid legacy of poverty, inequality and unemployment.  \nDirectors endorsed efforts to help the country to overcome the COVID-19 crisis, and welcomed IFC’s investment in vaccine manufacturing. They urged Management to seek further opportunities to help South Africa accelerate its vaccination campaign in South Africa and support vaccination efforts at scale across the continent.  \nDirectors welcomed the “One WBG approach” with the substantial and growing IFC and MIGA engagement in the country. They highlighted the CPF’s focus on the private sector, climate change, pandemic response but also underlined the challenges raised by inequality and lack of vocational training. They supported a Just Energy Transition to low carbon and energy-efficient options while taking into account the need to support affected communities. Directors also welcomed greater efforts to address gender equality, digital economy and governance, especially in the context of recent events.  \nDirectors welcomed the CPF’s selectivity and flexible approach to adapt World Bank Group instruments to client demands and expressed support for possible IBRD financing, should the country wish to access such resources. They recognized the importance of the knowledge function and stressed the need to manage implementation effectively, urging strong results monitoring and integrating lessons learned.
