to the members,but also to thepublic and that will demonstrate that the Societyof the Sons of the American Revolution is doingconstructive,practical,influential,patriotic work.  \n\"To foster true patriotism,to carry out the pur-poses and objects expressed in the preamble of theConstitution of our Country and the injunctions ofWashington in his farewell address to the Ameri-can People.\"These two sentences,which close theparagraph of the Purposes and Objects of theS.A.R.,are in the minds of many the most import-ant constructive work that the Society has advo-cated.  \nIt is elemental that to \"foster true Patriotism,\"we must start with the youth of our country,andthe way to reach the boys and girls of the nation isthrough the public schools.There we have thecommon ground of youthful citizenship and themingling of all the races that have come to thiscountry for betterment of conditions and greaterliberties.The boys and girls should be taught thatthis liberty is not license,and learn and under-stand the purposes expressed in the preamble of theConstitution.  \nWith this idea in mind the plan has been devisedof awarding medals to boys and girls of the gradu-ating classes of the Grammar Schools,who duringthe year have typified the best ideals of citizenshipas outlined in the\"Plan of Award\"here following:  \nThe qualities to be considered in makingthe award shail be:  \nI.DEPENDABILITY as evidenced by the rec-ord in punctuality,truthfulness,honesty,loyalty,trustworthiness and self-control.  \nII.CO-OPERATION as evidenced by the rec-ord in respect for authority,respect for property,respect for the rights of others,and courtesy.  \nIII.LEADERSHIP as evidenced by what thepupil has done to make the school a better school  \nIV.PATRIOTISM,as evidenced
