The narration focuses on shock, denial, and the grim logistics of hiding a body inside a family home. As the character tries to move and conceal the corpse while time pressures mount, dark humor and panic replace certainty. The scene emphasizes fear of discovery, urgency before family returns, and the psychological weight of an irreversible act.","Mark Hurst \nSomebody I Used to Know \nMistakes may be forgiven, but are they ever forgotten? \n[OceanofPDF.com](OceanofPDF.com) \nTable of Contents \nTitle Page \nSomebody I Used To Know \nPrologue 1 \n2 \n3 \n4 \n5 \n6 \n7 \n8 \n9 \n10 \n11 \n12 \n13 \n14 \n16 \n17 \n18 \n19 \n20 \n21 \n22 \n23 \n24 \n25 \n26 \n27 \n28 \n29 \n30 \n31 \n32 \n33 \n34 \n35 \n36 \n37 \n38 \n39 \n40 \n41 \n42 \n43 \n44 \n45 \n46 \n47 \n48 \n49 \n50 \nEpilogue \nALSO BY MARK HURST \n[OceanofPDF.com](OceanofPDF.com) \nWooded Hill Books Limited [www.woodedhillbooks.com](www.woodedhillbooks.com) \n[OceanofPDF.com](OceanofPDF.com) \nCopyright ©2026 by Mark Hurst All rights reserved. \nNo part of this book may be reproduced in any form or by an electronic or mechanical means, including information storage or retrieval systems, without written permission from the author, except for the use of brief quotations in a book review. \nThis is a work of fiction. Not wanting to accept fully that I have just killed a human being, I choose to imagine the body as a large sack of garden waste, and half tugging and half dragging it along the floor, I wish this had never happened, that he had never come to the house. If only he had stayed away, I wouldn’t have become a murderer, and I wouldn’t have this impossible task in front of me of disposing of a body. What the hell am I going to do with it? \nThe immediate thing to do is to remove his body from the kitchen and hide it somewhere for the time being to keep this secret. I then need to workout how and where to transport it, and I would love it to be far from here, far from my family and me, but I know my options are severely limited. \nAt least there is no excessive blood cleanup to deal with. The single blow to his head worked far more effectively than I had expected, but his twisting and writhing on the kitchen floor, the curling up into the grotesque shape of a dying creature, while choking for air, was hard to endure. \nI never would have expected such a regular household implement could do that to a grown, athletically fit man, especially so quickly. However, there is no time to waste. I must work fast now; they’ll be home soon, and I need to clean up as best I can before they arrive. \nAs I drag the dead weight into the garage through the internal connecting door, something snags beneath it, and as I pull harder, the resistance is more than my strength, and he slips from my hands. The release has me stagger backwards, almost losing my footing. Bending over his body, I try to rotate it slightly to work out what is catching and push my hand beneath it, suspecting it is the rope wrapping him, tied over the \nbedsheet, catching on the metal strip across the foot of the doorway.
