The Faculty has been successful in securing an Australian Government grant to support some placements. \nWe look forward to working with you to provide a learning environment where students are encouraged to become culturally safe and professionally sound social workers. \nTIMING AND LENGTH OF PLACEMENTS \nBachelor of Social Work and Master of Social Work (Qualifying) students are required to undertake 1000 hours of placement, spanning 2 x 500-hour blocks. We have offerings twice a year, which align with our University teaching semesters. \nPLACEMENT REQUIREMENTS AND SUPPORT \nAll placements are structured towards guaranteeing the student has the educational opportunity to develop practical skills and knowledge essential for them to attain the necessary graduate attributes and meet the Practice Standards of the Australian Association of Social Workers. These placements are supervised by a qualified social worker with a minimum of 2 years’ post-qualifying experience. In some situations, CDU can provide an external supervisor to provide supervision, where thereis not an appropriately qualified social worker onsite. \n[cdu.edu.au](cdu.edu.au) \nPLACEMENT PREPARATION \nStudents wanting to undertake a placement must meet all the documentation requirements set out by CDU and the organisation. This ensures compliance with state/ territory legislation and agency requirements. It is the student’s responsibility to ensure all documents are correct and current. \nCULTURALLY SAFE PRACTICE \nThe Faculty has developed a Cultural Safety Framework to strengthen culturally safe practice and build individual and organisational capacity for staff and students. It aims to facilitate discussion about what preparation staff need to work effectively in the health sector in the NT. CDU encourages health/community organisations to engage in partnerships and take culturally responsive approaches to placements. Guidelines for Culturally Safe Clinical Placements have also been developed by the Faculty to ensure negotiation of culturally safe practice for students, academic and professional staff, and the broader community. This guide provides an evidence base for a clinical placement model based on a set of principles that incorporates Cultural Safety. \nKEY DATES \nPlacements for social work students occur within the semester period but we are happy to explore all opportunities for our students. If you are interested in hosting a social work student on placement please contact us. \nCONTACT DETAILS \nPlease scan the QR code to complete our expression of interest form on our website.
