anniversary. On this occasion it richly merits the accolade ofan emphatic“well done”from all open-minded,large-hearted men.For such men see in the activity of ADLan important component of the struggle to implementindividual and group justice and charity—the onlyfoundation firm enough to support the kind of peacefor men and nations that can withstand self-servingindividualism on the one hand and totalitarian tyrannyon the other. \neditor’sdesk \nThough primarily concerned with problems affect-ing the Jewish community, the ADL has ranged in amuch wider area.Accordingly, one of its functions hasbeen that of working with and assisting like-purposedorganizations to assure more effective exercise of nat-ural and civil rights by all religious and ethnic groups. \nThe ADL has thus contributed strongly toward mak-ing the character of intergroup relations in the UnitedStates more genuinely expressive of the American spiritof cooperation, fair dealing and good will among men—irrespective of creed, color, and national origin. \n# Social Order and the ADL\n\nThere is an analogy between the aims of SocialOrder and the ADL.Social Order is a journal com-mitted in the first place to the high purpose of inform-ing and inspiring the Catholic community with theprinciples that make for a society in which the dignityof every man of whatever religious, ethnic and socialbackground will be acknowledged, respected, and pro-tected.But its special preoccupation with Catholics in \nno sense precludes Social Order's readiness to cooper-ate with those of other faiths in helping to attain thisurgent goal. \nFor these reasons we have welcomed the opportu-nity to_collaborate with Dr.Joseph Lichten,Directorof the Department of Intercultural Affairs of ADL,indevoting this issue of Social Order to an exchange ofideas among four men prominent in the field of inter-group relations;two are Jewish and two are Catholicspokesmen. We trust that this exchange vill serve wellthe cause of universal justice and charity to whichSocial Order and the ADL—each in its own distinctiveway—are pledged. \n# No Loss of Identity\n\nIn interfaith collaboration we do not weaken, farless surrender, our respective religious loyalties.Weare assuredly not ","cbCaisnwLRSxLIjQ","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaisnwLRSxLIjQ","pdf",2167135,52,"English","# From the Editor's Desk\n# Social Order and
