The discussion weighs philosophical and legal attitudes that privilege the strong over the weak, critiques eugenics as a justice-violating approach, and frames the conflict as rooted in politicizing religion. It contrasts Catholic commitments to human dignity with Darwinian and Marxist divisions and analyzes arguments tied to cases such as Buck v. Justice and,at the same time, beagainst abortion? This is the peculiar problem that PopeFrancis presents to the modern world. On the one hand, heis well-known for his concern for the poor and his strongcommitment to Social Justice. On the other hand,he isstaunchly pro-life in his opposition to abortion.By virtueof the former commitment he qualifies as a “liberal”.Buthis opposition to abortion would make him eligible for thelabel “conservative”.How is it possible for one man toembody two seemingly disjunctive categories? Is this aconundrum or simply a matter of being consistentlyCatholic?
