Educators write our test items, create and review our resources and tools, and advise us on policies and practices . \nThe Smarter Balanced offers its member states access to H-Q standard-aligned assessments (ICA, IBA-Blocks, and Focused IBA-Blocks) and to corresponding connection playlists that support teachers by providing instruction ideas with linked resources to support and engage students in next-step of instruction. \nWhat makes SB different? The SB Assessment system offers educators curriculumbased results. This cohesive ecosystem helps educators understand the needs of their students and provides links to next-step instructional materials and resources that are tightly aligned, to MI ELA and Math standards. The cohesive systems support educators with next-step instructional ideas to continuously advance student learning to the next level. \nSBAC offers this coherent system to all educators, included in their Member States. \nSBAC works with thousands of educators across the United States to build and maintain this ecosystem that helps teachers do what they do best…teach. \n▪ \n▪ \n▪ \n▪ \n▪ \n▪ \n▪ \n▪ \n▪ \n▪ \n▪ \n▪ \n▪ \n▪ \n▪ \nBureau of Indian Education California \nConnecticut \nDelaware \nGuam \nHawaii Idaho \nIndiana \nMichigan \nMontana \nNevada Oregon South Dakota \nU.S. Virgin Islands Washington \n4 \nSimilar content to our M-STEP \nMany of the items on our M-STEP are modeled after the SB summative assessment \nThe assessment vendors for both the SB Summative and M-STEP is Data Recognition Corporation (DRC)) \nMichigan will not use this level of the SB Assessment System as we administer the M-Step \n6 \nThere are different types of interim assessments based on the scope of content being assessed. \n▪ Interim Comprehensive Assessments (ICAs) = NWEA, i-Ready, Star \n▪ Interim Assessment Blocks (IABs) \n▪ Focused Interim Assessment Blocks (Focused IABs) \nICAs (Interim Comprehensive Assessments) can be used to provide information after a significant period of instruction or to determine the knowledge and skills of students entering the district/state. \nThe ICAs are most-similar to NWEA; i-Ready; and Star Renaissance. Most districts will not use this layer of the SBAC assessment system. \nIABs (Interim Assessment Blocks) can be used to check where a student is at any given moment, used throughout the year to assess small blocks of content, and to determine next steps in instruction. \nSpecial Note: Michigan districts can use this level of the SBAC assessment system, for instructional use, even if your district is using NWEA; i-Ready; and/or Star Renaissance. \nFocused IABs (Interim Assessment Blocks) only assess a few targets and provide a more detailed understanding of where a student is at and determine the next steps for instruction. These have a “Connections Playlist” that includes links to resources and instructional strategies. \nSpecial Note: Michigan districts can use this level of the SBAC assessment system for instructional purposes use even if they are using NWEA; i-Ready; and/or Star Renaissance. \n10","cbCairijr4hN17vr","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCairijr4hN17vr","pdf",6486544,53,"English","# SB Assessment System Overview\n# Smarter Balanced-Connected Interim Assessment Types\n## ICA (Interim Comprehensive Assessments)\n## IAB (Interim Assessment Blocks)\n## Focused IABs\n# Michigan Adoption Notes","[{\"question\":\"What is Smarter Balanced (SB) and how is it used by member states?\",\"answer\":\"SB is an assessment ecosystem developed with collaboration among K-12 and higher education leaders and educators.
