Students will learn to develop their own responses as their skills and knowledge improve, and develop the ability to evaluate their work through tutorials. Students will be encouraged to work independently using agreed individual action plans. \nCourse Content \nThe first year of the course prepares students for the \n2 units in Year 13. This year is spent honing their art skills and technique’s as well as learning the valuable skill of sketch-booking. \nStudents complete 2 units; one personal investigation and one externally set assignment. Candidates develop work through a personal investigation in response to an idea, issue, concept or theme of their choosing. \nFor the exam, candidates choose one of eight exciting assignments and produce preliminary work over a month long period. At the end of the lead in period students must complete 15 hours of unaided but supervised work. \nAssessment \n50% Personal investigation unit 50% Externally set assignment \nCareer Opportunities \nGraduates tend to go onto either foundation courses at Further Education or direct entry to university. It is considered valuable to a wide range of careers ranging from Architecture through to Web Design. \nBiology \nLevel: A Level \nAwarding Body: OCR \nCourse Description \nA Level Biology develops material studied at GCSE allowing students to gain greater knowledge and understanding about a range of topics from cell biology to genetics as well as the ability to apply this new learning in a range of situations. Biology continues to be a highly popular subject for A Level students at Ashlawn School. Biology as a core Science is usually studied in combination with Chemistry and Physics. However, as a natural Science, Biology is also complemented by the study of Geography, Maths, P.E and Psychology. \nCourse Content \nThroughout the A Level Biology course taught at Ashlawn Sixth Form students will have the opportunity to study a wide range of biological topics that will allow them to broaden and deepen their understanding of the biological world. Students will examine the structure and role of key biological macromolecules include proteins, carbohydrates and lipids and nucleic acids. They will also explore the ultrastructure of cells and examine how cellular communication and \nco-operation allows organisms to carry out fundamental life processes. Through this course student will also have the opportunity to learn about the structure function and role of communication, exchange and transport systems andwill examine these systems in a variety of living organisms. In addition to this, students will explore the causes of disease and the effects they have on organisms. At a higher level students will look at the evolutionary processes that have led to the great wealth of diversity we see in the natural world, in addition to exploring how this diversity can be studied and manipulated through the use of genomics and biotechnology. \nAssessment \n• Method of assessment A2: \n• Biological processes (O1) A: 2 hours 15 minutes written paper \n• Biological processes (O2) A: 2 hours 15 minutes written paper \n• Unified Biology (O3) A: 1 hour 30 minutes written paper \nCourse Overview: \nContent is split into four teaching modules: \nModule 1: Development of practical skills in Biology \nModule 2: Foundations in Biology \nModule 3: Exchange and transport \nModule 4: Biodiversity, evolution and disease \nModule 5: Communication, Homeostasis and energy \nModule 6: Genetics, Evolution and Ecosystems \nCareer Opportunities \nThis co","cbCaid9mMmJfBinX","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaid9mMmJfBinX","pdf",5276176,48,"English","# Sixth Form Provision\n## A Level Art and Design\n## A Level Biology\n## Business BTEC Level 3","[{\"question\":\"What learning outcomes and structure are described for the A Level Art course?\",\"answer\":\"The A Level Art course builds on GCSE Art and Design and develops students’ responses, evaluation skills through tutorials, and independent work using individual action plans.
