\nConservation Status:Least Concern \nThe scientific name for silkworms is Bombyx mori.Bombyxmeans sikworm and Mori is a form of the black mulberry tree. \nNative to Northern China, the silkworm is a caterpillar of thewhite moth. \nSilkworms have a soft skin,no backbone or skeleton.Instead, they have an exoskeleton or exterior shell.A silkworm has sixlegs in the adult stage. They also have five pseudopods or falselegs. \nSilkworms are cold-blooded animals.Cold-blooded animalsget hotter or colder depending on the temperature outside. For example, when the sun is out, some cold-blooded animalssuch as snakes, can be found soaking up the heat to warm up.Cold-blooded animals include reptiles, amphibians and fish. \nWarm-blooded animals can make their own body heat, evenwhen it is cold outside.Their body temperatures usually staythe same.Mammals and birds and warm-blooded. \n0 \n# Silkworms\n\nA female silkworm lays around 200 to 500 eggs. The eggs take 7-20 days to hatch. When they are laid, the eggs are a lemon-yelow.:colour,but,after about three days, will turn white if they areinfertile or black if they are fertile. \nThe silkworm eggs have pores on them which you can see if youlook at them under a microscope. They let the air inside while thecaterpillar is developing. \nWhen you can see a dark ring with a clear center, the egg isalmost ready to hatch. They usually hatch at dawn. The leavesneed to be changed at least 3 times a day.The tiny sikworm lookslike a ting black string \nA newly hatched silkworm is called a larva. They are very tiny.Thesmall silkworms are too weak for the first 5 days and cannot crawlfrom an old leaf to a new leaf,so place a new leaf on top of theold one. Each stage a sikworm goes through is called an instar.Firstinstar they are black, second and third instars thy are grayish -white with black heads. The fourth instar they have a bigger headand grow lots.In the fifth instar, their heads turn white. \nLarva have spiracles. These are little holes on the side of thesilkworm which they breathe through. \nThis larvae eat for around 26 days before they are big enough tostart spinning silk.Use toilet paper tubes cut in half,so they are notso tall or paper towel tubes that are cut into six or the bottom half·:of egg cartons for the silkworms to spin their cocoons in.9 \nWhen they are ready to spin, they stop eating and turn yellowishSilkworms poop a green or amber coloured stuff out beforespinning their cocoon. This is to clear out their intestines so that theydon't poop inside the cocoon. \nSilkworms \nIt takes them about three days to spin their cocoon, but do not \ndisturb them during this time. Some cocoons are yellow, while other.:cocoons are white. This is genetic, just like some people have blue .eyes and other people have brown eyes. \nWhile in the cocoon, the silkworm sheds it skin once more and thenturns into a brown-shelled pupa It is in this shell that the pupa turnsinto a moth. After about three weeks, the moth will emerge byusing a special spit that dissolves the silk so it can pus","cbCaipDSXebvy7c8","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaipDSXebvy7c8","pdf",17686492,118,"English","# Silkworms\n## Scientific
