It outlines staffing changes, student music tuition highlights, key school dates for Term 3, and a Thailand missions trip for a group of students. School news covers term-end reminders and a visit from the Black Dog Institute addressing depression, anxiety, suicide, and practical support strategies.","Shepparton Christian College \nIssue 11 \n28th June, 2018 educating for eternity \nPrincipal’s Piece \nAs they say, time flies when you are having fun. It has been a great term and first half to the year. It has been fantastic to see the learning and growth of each of our young people, coupled with some great community activities. God is doing good things at Shepparton Christian College. \nIt is reports time, and written semester reports will be emailed to parents on the last day of term (Friday 29/6) . These reports not only contain summative grades for the semester, but also have some valuable feedback for students and parents on how to improve your child’s learning in Semester 2. I encourage each of you to take the time to read the reports with your child, and discuss the things that teachers have written. \nThere are two staffing changes happening as the semester draws to a close. Bethany Edgar has been a learning support staff member for around 6 years. She has recently obtained a full time role in a different profession. Victor Zhao, who has been teaching secondary maths in the College, has also submitted his resignation. We thank both of these staff members for their contributions to our College and wish them both God’s richest blessings in their future endeavours. \nIt was a real privilege last week to attend the Music Tuition Soiree. It was fantastic to see the growth in the musical talents of our students. Congratulations to all the students who presented, and keep up the good work. I would also like to acknowledge and thank our music tutors who are so gifted and professional in teaching our young people in this area. Thanks to Mrs Asten Peric, Mr Daniel Fenby and Mr Philip Tan. \nThe first 2 days (Mon 16/7 & Tue 17/7) of term 3 are student free days to allow our staff team to attend some professional development. We will beheading to Bendigo for these days with the Monday being a retreat day for staff and Tuesday the Christian Schools Australia Conference day. These are important days in continuing to feed into and develop our staff team. \nOver the term break, and into week 1 of term 3, we have a group of 10 students with 2 staff heading to Thailand for our bi-annual missions trip. Please keep this group in your prayers. There is more information about this later in this newsletter. \nEducation is about many things. At a basic level is it about pure academics. This is important and our team do an excellent job (backed by solid data) in the area of academics. But, education is about more than academics. It isabout the development of the whole person. The most significant part of this is the development of character. Our College values assist us as to focus on the areas of character development that we see as vital. \nAs a reminder, the values are Compassion, Humility, Respect, Integrity, Service and Truth (CHRIST acronym) . \nIn the last newsletter I wrote about Compassion. This time, I would like to briefly explore the idea of Humility. The Bible talks about humility in a number of ways. It talks about putting God first, about trusting in God rather than man, about serving others. \nDo nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. Philippians 2:3-4 (NIV) \nThe Bible also talks about being bold and courageous. It talks about soaring on wings like eagles. It talks about the believers being honoured as sons and daughters of the Father God. \nFor me, humility is about knowing who we are in God, being confident in that, and seeking to build into the Kingdom of God through showing God’s love in action. This is the attitude and character we seek for our young people. \nI wish you all a happy and safe winter holiday and I look forward to all the exciting learning and growing that will take place in Semester 2. \nGod Bless \n155 Verney Road, Shepparton VIC 3630 \np: 03 58317790 f: 03 583177","cbCaiqUeIH3kWkIG","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaiqUeIH3kWkIG","pdf",1198536,1,9,"English","en",105,"# Principal’s Piece\n## Semester reports and staffing changes\n## Music Tuition Soiree and staff development\n## Missions trip to Thailand\n## Values: Compassion and Humility\n# School News\n## Important reminders for Term 2 and Term 3\n## Black Dog Institute visit","[{\"question\":\"When will semester reports be emailed to parents, and what should families do with them?\",\"answer\":\"Semester reports will be emailed on Friday 29/6, and families are encouraged to read them with their child and discuss teacher feedback for improving learning in Semester 2.\"},{\"question\":\"What key dates and student-free days are scheduled for the start of Term 3?\",\"answer\":\"The first two days of Term 3 (Mon 16/7 and Tue 17/7) are student-free days for staff professional development.
