Years later, newly found footage forces her to reopen what she believed—especially when surveillance reveals a figure moving at inhuman speed and showing restraint. Driven by guilt and obsession, Lucía analyzes archived security data and compares movement patterns to identify who truly harmed Gabriel, setting her life into motion toward the truth.","SHE WHO BRINGS THE NIGHT \nA HOUSE OF NIGHTFALL NOVEL \nTESSA BROOKS \nOCEANOFPDF. It lodged there painfully, terribly. She doubted she would ever recover. \nShe’d been waiting for her brother at the far end of the alley behind St. Jude’s. She didn’t know what he was meeting about. He hadn’t told her. He’d just asked her to come, saying he wanted her there incase something went wrong. \nSomething had gone wrong. \nThe first sound she heard wasn’t a gunshot. Not the way she’d ever imagined one would sound. It was a heavy, dull thud, and then her brother’s body hit the wet ground. Lucía was already running before her brain had finished deciding she should. \nIt seemed so far, so far, and the faster she ran, the farther it seemed tobe. It was twenty-four yards, she’d later measure on a map, over andover, as if the number could give her permission to forgive herself. Twenty-four yards between her and Gabriel. Close enough to hear him fall. Too far to stop what had already started. \nShe didn’t make it to him in time. \nA figure was already there. Lucía never understood how the alley could be empty one second and occupied the next. She only remembered fragments after that. Dark hair. A body bent over \nGabriel. Blood spreading across the pavement. A hand at his throat. Then Gabriel’s arm jerked once before going still. \nFor years, her mind stitched those pieces together into something certain. \nIn the moment, all she could see was the blood. The blood, and the woman bending over her brother, and Gabriel’s hand lifting once, weakly, toward that bent face. Then his hand fell back, and it didn’t lift again. \nLucía thought she was watching her brother die in the arms of the thing that had killed him. \nHer body locked in place where she stood. She wanted to run toward him, to scream, but she couldn’t move. She couldn’t move when the woman lifted her head. She stood in the shadows and watched her brother die. She’d never forgiven herself, never admitted it either. \nLucía only remembered fragments after that. Blood on the pavement. Sirens somewhere in the distance. Another shape moving through the rain too fast for her eyes to follow clearly. \nShe remembered backing away. She remembered the panic finally catching up with her body all at once. Then she was running before her mind had fully understood what she’d seen. \nBy the time she finally forced herself back toward the alley, Gabriel was gone. Only the blood remained. \nFor three years, she carried that night in her chest like a wound that wouldn’t close. She built her life around it. She told herself a version she could live with: that the woman had been a vampire, that the blood had meant teeth, that the figure she’d seen kneeling over Gabriel had been the one who’d killed him. She told herself this so many times she stopped noticing she was telling herself anything at all. \nShe was wrong about every part of it. \nShe wouldn’t know that for three years. \nThe footage ran at one-quarter speed, and the blur still moved too fast. \nLucía pressed pause. This was three weeks ago. It was an exterior camera from the northwest corner of Nightfall’s perimeter wall.","cbCaisSZH37wBJ4w","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaisSZH37wBJ4w","pdf",2038003,193,"English","en",105,"# Chapter 1\n## The night Gabriel died\n## Years of guilt and a self-made story\n## New footage and frame-by-frame analysis\n## Movement-pattern comparison and the looming truth","[{\"question\":\"What happened to Gabriel in the opening chapter?\",\"answer\":\"Gabriel is killed during a meeting in an alley behind St. Jude’s.
