But there are others, too, who loved God. And we can learn from their example. \nLet’s look at some of them. \nLYDIA \nIn the book of Acts in the New Testament, we read the story of Paul. He was a great missionary. Paul traveled all over the Roman Empire sharing the good news about Jesus. Several men traveled with him – Barnabas, Silas, Timothy, and others. \nBut women worked with Paul, too. Many people don’t know that. One of these women was named Lydia. We read about her in Acts Chapter 16, verses 14, 15 and 40. \nLydia lived in a town called Philippi. Her work was selling beautiful purple cloth. She loved God. She followed God’s commands as the Jewish people taught them. But Lydia didn’t know about the salvation of Jesus. \nWhen Paul and Silas came to Philippi, they found a group of women meeting by a river. They had come there on the Sabbath day to pray. Paul told them about Jesus and how He came to save us. Lydia was one of the women who heard Paul preach. She accepted Jesus as her Savior. She was baptized. Everyone living in her house was baptized with her. \nLydia said to Paul and Silas,“Come and stay with us. As long as you are in Philippi, you are welcome in my home.” After that, the Christian believers in Philippi met in Lydia’s house. \nLydia earned money selling cloth. She used some of that money to feed the believers and care for them. \nThe first person on the whole continent of Europe to believe in Jesus was a woman! Yes, it was Lydia. We don’t know how long she worked in the church of Philippi. But we know she was one of its leaders when it began. It later became a very strong church. In his letter to the Philippian church later, Paul asked the believers there to “help the women” who had worked with him in that church (Philippians 4:3) . One of those women may have been Lydia. \nHULDAH \nLong ago, God gave His people some rules to follow. The people were called “Jews” and the book of rules was called “the Law.” But sometimes the Jews did not obey these rules. They worshiped pieces of wood or stone instead of worshiping the one true God. They did mean things to each other. They would even lie, steal and kill. They did not take care of poor people, or of orphans and widows.“Orphans” are children who have lost their parents.“Widows” are women whose husbands have died. \nThere was a Jewish king named Josiah. When he became king, the people were not obeying God. They didn’t even know where the book of the Law was. They had not read it for a long time. They had forgotten God’s rules. People were doing evil things, and there was much suffering. \nBut one day someone found the book of the Law. He found it in the Temple, the place for worshiping God. One man took the book to King Josiah and read it to him. When the king heard God’s rules, he knew the people had not been obeying them. He was so upset that he tore his clothes. He said to one of the Temple leaders,“God must be very angry with us","cbCaikbbOi7lQlXu","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaikbbOi7lQlXu","pdf",491832,1,29,"English","en",105,"# Lydia\n## Paul, Silas, and Lydia’s faith\n## Lydia’s leadership and legacy\n# Hul(d)ah\n## The Law is found and read\n## God’s message to King Josiah","[{\"question\":\"Who was Lydia, and what did she do in Acts Chapter 16?\",\"answer\":\"Lydia was a woman who met by a river to pray.
